October and November<\/strong><\/p>\n

We finishing up our exploration of\u00a0Tinikling<\/em> at the beginning of October.<\/p>\n

We will look at what we have learned about Beat, Rhythm and Meter<\/strong> by learning these dance steps.<\/p>\n

Then we will learn about\u00a0found sound<\/strong> instruments. These are non-traditional instruments, or objects that are not traditionally used as musical instruments, used to make musical sounds.<\/p>\n

Then we will watch the work of the group\u00a0Stomp.\u00a0<\/strong>Stomp<\/em> uses non-traditional instruments in their compositions and performances.<\/p>\n

The children will be asked to bring in an object that makes a sound, and Ms. Karlson will show them how to build a rhythm piece using their objects.<\/p>\n

The ultimate goal will be that the children will be put into groups and asked to create a piece in the style of Stomp<\/em>.<\/p>\n

The piece will need to have a clear form, dramatic elements, rhythms, and a steady beat. The children will need to work cooperatively in their groups. The pieces will be due at the beginning of December. They will have all of November to work on these pieces.<\/p>\n

September<\/strong><\/p>\n

Students in Divisions 1 and 2 will be starting the year learning about and participating in the Philipino song\/dance\u00a0Tinkling.<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n
