The due dates are June 8th for Divisions 1 and 2, and June 10th for Division 3.

Students will perform their songs for the class. We will talk about performance and audience etiquette as we perform songs for each other. The students are expected to be supportive, encouraging and appreciative audiences for each other. They are expected to perform with confidence and pride. They worked hard on their pieces, and with enough practice the performance should not be too intimidating.

In the performing arts, we learn how to get up in front of a group and share in public. This is difficult and can be a fear for many people. In performing arts class, the children have the support of the teacher, in a low-stakes environment, to practice the skills it takes to share in public. Feining confidence, practicing a lot, concentrating on a specific thing, can get one through a performance situation.

As an audience member we need to be a good listener, respectful to a performer, show encouragement and respond with applause. These things are expected when we are an audience in a public setting, and also elicit the best performance out of performers we watch. We will talk about this in music class and how important these skills will be in their future lives. These are probably the most important skills the children will take with them from Elementary School moving forward.

After this project is finished, Divisions 1 and 2 will be busy with classroom June activities. In music, we will keep it light by playing some of their favourite games from music classes of the past.

Divisions 3 will participate in some listening, dance and drama activities until the Unfortunately, without grade seven band this year, those students will have a less informed choice about their electives in high school. We will have some sessions with the high school teachers around band so the grade seven students will better understand what band entails, what choices of instruments they have and how to play them before they make their course selections in January.

We are going to learn a song for the school-wide sing along on December 18th.
