January

Starting in January this term, students at Armstrong are moving on to bigger and better things during music classes.

The Kindergartens will be learning about all of the non-pitched percussion instruments of the music classroom including triangles, maracas, woodblocks, rhythm sticks and hand drums.

The grade ones will be learning how to improvise rhythms.

The grade twos and threes will be starting their Primary Days of music songs.

The grade fours and fives and five/six classes are continuing to build on their note reading skills and pitched instrument skills.

The grade sixes and sevens are starting to play the guitar.

Please see the Music Links and Games tab for exercises and resources to help you practice at home!

Primary Concert coming soon!

Our primary concert will be held on December 18th in our school gymnasium at 1:30 in the afternoon and at 6:30pm. Doors will open at 6:00 for parents to be seated in the gym.

The primary teachers are teaching their class each at least one song, and Ms. Karlson is teaching all of the primary classes a song for the Finale. Join us for this special celebration of the younger members of our school in dance and in song. The theme is Winter with a dash of Peace and Love.

Congratulations to our Intermediates!

Congratulations to our intermediate students who put on a wonderful school concert! It was spooky and spectacular – spooktacular! Just ready for our spooky fall season.

The intermediates made all of the props, spent all of September and most of October rehearsing their dances and acting. They really stepped up to the plate!

An apology for anyone who was missed in the programme including Armaan Parwana and Stefanie Pizzen who played the Firefighter and the Police Officer respectively.

Now the intermediates will concentrate on learning how to read music on the staff and play instruments. The grade 4/5 classes will be playing the soprano recorder. The grade 5/6 classes will be playing all sizes of recorder, the xylophones and the chimes. The grade 6/7s will be playing the chimes.

Here is a short video to get the intermediates in the mood for learning how to play their instruments. It takes practice every day to get proficient on an instrument – it’s not magic!

Fall Spooktacular – not to be missed!

The intermediate students of Armstrong have been working hard on preparing our Fall Spooktacular musical play – “Love Potion Number Whoops!”.

The concert takes place in our school gym on October 23rd at 1:30pm and 6:30pm.

It is the story of a young girl who likes a boy and solicits and love potion from a group of witches. The love potion turns out to be faulty, as well as the girl and her friends using it improperly. The boy is a mess! The girls try to get help from Doctor Frankenstein, but that is when it all breaks loose and gets much worse!

Songs featured are Black Magic, Love Potion Number 9, Monster Mash, Thriller, Ghostbusters and the theme music from The Blob.

Intermediate students have been working on all aspects of the play including all of the props, costumes and sets. The cast has been rehearsing and we have put together a band for the Finale of the play. I hope everyone comes out to experience the hard work of all of our grade 4-7 students at Armstrong! They deserve your support!

See the concert tab on this page for more information about needs for the play including costumes.

Here are the songs in case your child wants to practice at home:

2019-2020 school year

Welcome to and back to Armstrong everybody! I hope everyone had a restful and musical summer holiday!

The music schedule has started this week. Please ask your classroom teacher for your music times. All classes have music twice a week this year!

Intermediate classes are starting right away with preparing for our annual concert. The intermediates only will perform on October 23rd at 1:30pm and 6:30pm in our school gym. It is a spooky theme – our Fall Spooktacular play called “Love Potion Number Whoops!”

Cast rehearsals begin this week on Wednesday at lunch time.

Classes are already busy learning dance numbers, songs and making props and sets. Please send in boxes and clean and dry recycling that we can use to make the props we need for the play.

Primary classes are staring by learning rhythms and Thanksgiving songs!

Welcome to our newest students in Kindergarten who are learning music class routines and early primary fingerplays and songs.
