March – April 16
Divisions 3 and 4 are playing The Final Countdown on instruments and singing for our concert. Here are the lyrics to practice at home:
We’re leavin’ together
But still it’s farewell
And maybe we’ll come back
To Earth, who can tell?
I guess there is no one to blame
We’re leaving ground (leaving ground)
Will things ever be the same again?
It’s the final countdown
The final countdown
Oh
We’re headin’ for Venus (Venus)
And still we stand tall
‘Cause maybe they’ve seen us
And welcome us all, yeah
With so many light years to go
And things to be found (to be found)
I’m sure that we all miss her so
It’s the final countdown
The final countdown
The final countdown (final countdown)
(Oh)
Oh
And here is the video. (We are just doing the first part of the song, up until the guitar solo)
January-March
Divisions 3 and 4 will be learning to play The Final Countdown on xylophones this term, and playing this song in our concert. Here is the video for The Final Countdown by the band, Europe.
We will also explore drama concepts and set making as we prepare to participate in our school play.
December
The children in Division 3 are learning some songs that include many instruments.
In the fall, we learned about chords and played a bit of guitar and ukulele.
Now we are exploring the recorder, and playing melodies.
Put a melody together with some chords, and you have a full orchestra!
So, the children learn the melody of the song on recorder, then have the choice to play any harmony instrument to accompany that melody. The choices are:
Xylophones
Piano
Guitar
Ukulele
And when we put it together, it’s such a lovely sound!
We even learned Jolly Old Saint Nicholas in two parts on the recorder, so there is a counter-melody, or harmony on the recorder as well.
For the rest of December we will learn some rounds. A round is a melody that multiple people can play, and start at different times. This way it creates harmony, but everyone is playing the same melody!
Here is an example of a round we will learn on the recorder:
