We read the story, “Gingerbread Man Loose in the School” and were surprised with a scavenger hunt around the school to find our gingerbread man! We made some posters to help us find our gingerbread man, then we followed different clues that took us to places like the gym, library, music room, and office, and after our hard search, we found our gingerbread man hiding in our class!

We decorated gingerbread houses! Thanks to our PAC, we were given pre-made gingerbread houses to decorate with our buddies!
When it snowed, we took our black construction paper outside and caught so many snowflakes! The black paper made it easier for us to see the snowflakes up close!
We had a special guest, Xwalacktun, teach our class how to make animals using a Coast Salish style of drawing!
We collected parts of nature in our school’s forest area and created faces using what we found!
We have been learning about shapes, sorting, and patterns. There are three different ways to sort items: by size, by shape, and by colour! We sorted ALL of our lego pieces into their colours as a class!
We have been learning about community helpers and the people around our neighbourhood. This week, we went on a field trip to the fire station and learn from the firefighters about their important jobs. They let us go inside of the fire truck and learned how to use the giant hose!
This week, we learned about the life cycle of a pumpkin. We all chose a pumpkin of our own at our school’s pumpkin patch and did a pumpkin investigation by measuring it with cubes, counting the lines, and observing the different features of them. We opened a pumpkin up and counted all of the seeds inside. We counted 399 seeds as a class! Ms. Kwok also did a pumpkin sink or float experiment with our class. We made predictions on what we thought would happen when a pumpkin is put in water and… it FLOATS!

Last week, we learned about squirrels and acorns. At the end of the week, we went on a squirrel search to see if we could find any in our school’s forest. We ended up finding one squirrel and tons of acorns!
We have been learning with our hands to work with our manipulatives (dominoes, snap cubes) to help us understand numbers better!
