We got to play with the bee bots and mouse bots and used our knowledge of directions to lead the bees and mice to a landmark. We had so much fun programming them!
Pattern Bracelets
We finished our patterns unit with a fun beading activity! Everyone was able to design their own bracelets or keychains on their planning sheet using a type of pattern (AB, ABC, AABB, ABBA). Once we finished our plan, we found the colours we wanted and made our creations.
Book Covers
We read lots of books by Jory John & Pete Oswald (The Good Egg, The Cool Bean, The Sour Grape, The Smart Cookie, The Bad Seed, The Couch Potato, The Big Cheese) and we were inspired to create characters of our own and design a book cover using the style of Pete Oswald’s work.
Exploring Our Community on Google Earth
We have been exploring our community and city with Google Earth! We have visited some familiar places that are often found in a community, like our grocery store, fire station, school, park, mall, and more! We had practice using directions to get from one place to another on Google Earth. We started from Mrs. Chin’s class on Montecito Drive, and went left and right (using the L hand trick!) to get us to Squint Lake Park. I also took some suggestions and took us on a virtual field trip to Disneyland!
Sprinkle Kindness!
We made this beautiful donut bulletin board with our little buddies in Mrs. Chin’s class. Ours are on the left, and Mrs. Chin’s class’ donuts are on the right. We chose our own icing and sprinkle colours and cut out the sprinkles to create some delicious looking donuts!
Pumpkin Decorating with Little Buddies
We have little buddies this year in our Grade 1 class! Our Grade 1 students have been learning about being a leader and a good role model to younger students at our school. In addition to our big buddies in Mrs. Coletta’s class, we also see our little buddies in Mrs. Chin’s Kindergarten class weekly! Here, we helped them decorate their pumpkins from the pumpkin patch.
Patterns on the Projector
We have been working on finding the “core” in patterns this week, which is the part of the pattern that repeats! I used https://toytheater.com/pattern-blocks/ on the projector and created some patterns using the pattern blocks. We then had students come up to circle the “core” of the pattern, and others to write out the “rule” of the pattern (ABB, AABB, AABC)
Fun Games in Gym
We played a new team game where we had four minutes and one team was trying to flip all of the cones upside down and the other team was trying to flip all of the cones right side up! It was so much fun!
Friday Number Bingo!
We had a fun game of number bingo today with our class! Yesterday, we learned some fun rhymes to help us remember how to write the numbers. So far, we have learned numbers 0, 1, and 2.
0: Make an oval like an “O”, now you’ve got a zero!
1: One is fun, go straight down and then you’re done!
2: Around and back on a railroad track. You make a two just like that!
Thanksgiving Story Workshop
Happy Thanksgiving! We created stories using loose parts about spending time with our families over Thanksgiving. We talked about how important it is to spend time with loved ones and create special memories.
