Leaf Observations

As we’ve learned about seasonal changes, we took a walk outside and looked at how the leaves have started to change colour as their pigments have started to show due to having less sunlight in the Fall. We collected leaves and shared about the different features of these leaves such as shape, colour and size.

Positive Self-Talk and Growth Mindset

Through our Everyday Speech program we participate in every morning at school, we have been focusing on the concept of self-awareness and using positive self-talk. This includes practicing using a growth mindset when things get hard. Here are some phrases we talked about in class!

Orange Shirt Day

On Orange Shirt Day at our school, we had a conversation about what all children deserve to feel and have. This was a part of a school-wide project and event we had to honour the importance of Orange Shirt Day.

Welcome to Division 10!

Hello families of Division 10!

I am so excited to be working and learning with you all this year. I will be posting updates throughout the year of what we get up to in class and I encourage you to use these blog posts to guide your conversations with your children!

Gingerbread Man Hunt

After reading “The Gingerbread Man Loose in the School” by Laura Murray, we went on a surprise gingerbread man hunt around the school! We had to follow different clues which took us to a new location in the school and then found the gingerbread man in the classroom at the end!

Cards to Spread Holiday Cheer!

We made our very own holiday cards using different materials (tape, fun scissors, scrapbook paper, markers, ribbon) for the senior home near our school. Everyone made such creative cards that were sure to put a smile on the face of the special person who receives the card!

Meet Our New Classmates!

Division 10 got two new classmates in December. We named them Icicle and Elfred! They did so many silly things around our classroom and were found in different places every morning. We also did a writing activity where we shared about what we would do if we were an elf. Ms. Eisler did a directed drawing with us on how to draw an elf afterwards!

ADST Lego Challenge

We split up into teams and were given something to build with a bin of Lego we were given. We had to work as a group to share our ideas and create an object Ms. Jung gave the class and only had five minutes to build. Afterwards, we shared our creations and described what we made.

Field Trip to SFU

We went on our first field trip to Simon Fraser University where we attended a chemistry workshop and learned about the three states of matter (solid, liquid gas). They made us yummy ice cream using liquid nitrogen and then we got to enjoy our lunch outside in the beautiful weather! Thanks to all of the parent volunteers who took time out of their day to join us!
