May the 4th Be With You on Music Monday!

Happy Music Monday to All!

I hope everyone is continuing to be inspired by all the musical efforts from around the world, and right here in Burnaby as well!  Please email me any activities that you have completed.  They do not need to be the most current ones, they can be any activities posted on the blog!

This week the Primaries have “Down By the Bay” to take a look at.  You can even write your own verse.

Divisions 1, 2 and 3 can continue to work on Chrome Lab.  A new tutorial will be put up this week.  Even if you have submitted your song, you’re welcome to add to it, or make a new one!

Divisions 4 and 5, I have 2 new songs for you, one that’s an alto piece, and another song from Hot Jams for Recorder.

Please email me at teresa.jukich@burnabyschools.ca with your work!

Share Your Learning with the Music Teacher! April 24, 2020.

Happy Friday Everyone!

I hope you are keeping your brains busy with all the learning opportunities your classroom teachers are presenting to you!  In Mrs. Fierro’s College of Musical Knowledge, there are even more ways to make music while we are apart! I have sent an email to your teachers about this but here are the highlights:

  1. Check into the blog at least twice a week.  Look on this front page, AND the Primary and Intermediate tabs.
  2. Choose some of the activities to do.  No rush.
  3. Send me an email of you making music!  It can be a drawing, a video, a poem, a song!  I will provide feedback, and check you off in my mark book!
  4. There is also a reflection sheet that you may complete at the end of May.

Click here Music Reflection – Term 3 to access the reflection sheet.

I hope we can make music together really soon!  Until then, stay safe!

Happy Easter! Happy Spring!

Dear South Slope Students:

This has been a busy week for everyone as we find new ways to learn during this interesting time.  I’m excited about presenting some music activities here on the blog to keep your brain working and wondering.  Please look under the Resources tab for some wonderful activities and resource sites that have been generated by my colleague, Ms. Fletcher.

Under the Primary tab, I am posting some familiar songs that you can sing along to!

  1. Going Over the Sea
  2. Chicken Soup With Rice
  3. My Roots Go Down

Under the Intermediate tab, I have posted 2 songs for Divisions 4 and 5 to play on the recorder, and…..the beginnings of a long term project for Divisions 1,2, and 3 using a program called Chrome Music Lab.

Please take a look at the site and enjoy some new experiences,

I am grateful to Ms. Araujo, Ms. Fletcher, and Ms. Ishii for all their help and inspiration!

Missing you all terribly and looking forward to connecting with all of you soon!

A Spoonful of Sugar for Divisions 6,7,8,9, and 10

Dear Primary Students, Parents and Guardians at South Slope Elementary:

We must embrace our inner “Mary Poppins” at the moment and say that our “practically perfect” musical will need to be put on hold until further notice.  When we are all back in school, we will find another time to present our fabulous show!

On this blog, I will be posting some activities for you to enjoy while we are apart.  Check back here often!

I am thinking and missing you all terribly and I cannot wait to sing, “Welcome to Music” with you as soon as we are able!

Divisions 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5…..an update regarding Mary Poppins

Dear Divisions 1,2, 3, 4, and 5:

I’m sure it will not come as a surprise to you that Mary Poppins will need to be postponed.  At this point in time, long term plans that have already been made, will need to be adjusted to accommodate the circumstances we find ourselves in for the moment.  We will put our “practically perfect” musical on hold, but only until we can come up with another time to present our wonderful, amazing, show.  For the Grade 7 students of this year, who have already put a great deal of work into Mary Poppins, we WILL find a way to honour you!

I will be posting some activities here in the Intermediate category of this blog to keep your musical juices flowing!

Stay tuned, stay safe, and wash your hands!

Welcome to Mrs. Fierro’s College of Musical Knowledge!

Dear South Slope Music Students, Parents, and Guardians:

Welcome to the newly created blog for South Slope Music!  I would like to thank Ms. Chow for helping make this happen, but more importantly, Ms. Fletcher for helping fill it up with wonderful amazing items!  My online learning during this time will involve seeking out more meaningful activities like Ms Fletcher has put in here!  Please check back here often!
I hope everyone is staying safe and healthy.  I miss you all terribly! With this blog it is my hope that you can feel my heart reaching out to you, helping you remember some of the fun activities we’ve done in the past, and introducing you to some even more fun learning in the coming weeks.

In Song,

Mrs. Fierro
