December- January

WRITING GOALS! Students signed in with a writing goal they are hoping to improve on in the next term! Many students were concerned about conventions (capitals and periods) and others wanted to focus on adding more detail and description or printing neater.

ADAPTATIONS, HIBERNATION OR MIGRATION? Students were given a bunch of animal photos and were asked to discuss and sort these animals according to how they might survive extreme weather, such as winter weather? There was a lot of discussion, collaboration and compromise as students worked to decide how each of the animals is able to survive the cold winter months. We all know bears hibernate but did you know that bats and turtles also hibernate? How about adapting to their environment….did you know the polar bear has adaptations that allow it to survive cold arctic weather?

Santa Breakfast- Santa found Luna in the hallway and brought her a special Christmas cookie!

Delicious pancakes! The students enjoyed eating pancakes with a few other grade 2/3 classes in the gym. Santa even made one of our students special pancakes just for him!  He even personally delivered them! What a festive way to kick off the Winter Holidays!

Holiday Card Making– Students were joined by the Leadership students from Alpha Secondary again. This time they helped our students create beautiful hand painted Holiday Cards! Students drew black lines and then added lightbulbs, using paint and their fingertips!  The cards turned out beautifully!

GYM- Students were engaged in a relay!  Students were placed into teams and then two at a time placed a hula hoop between them and, using no hands, moved the hula hoop and short distance and dropped the hoop over a cone, then running back to their line for the next two to do the same. Teamwork, communication and fairness played a big role in this activity!

SALMON- We received 55 chum salmon eggs on January 14, 2026. We will be observing the growth of these eggs and will learn about the development stages they will go through over the next few months before we release them into Beecher Creek. At this point the eggs are called eyed eggs as you can see the salmon embryo’s eye through the semi-transparent egg shell. Did you know salmon eggs are soft and not hard like a chicken egg? Can you guess why?
