Activity #2:  Listen Up!

Age: grade 4-8

Join VSO flutist James Romeo and violist Jacob van der Sloot as you prepare to attend a virtual VSO concert at the Orpheum Theatre of Beethoven’s masterpiece, Symphony No. 5. Learn about Beethoven’s remarkable life, explore the role of different instruments in the orchestra, create your own interpretive artwork about Symphony No. 5, and receive a keepsake video presentation of all artwork submitted by participating students.

Activity #3:  Music in Motion

VSO Violinist Yi Zhou and dancer Tanya Phelps lead an interactive music and movement session featuring Vivaldi’s Spring from The Four Seasons. Learn a complete dance! It feels great to express the beautiful music with our bodies. No dance experience required, but kids with some ballet background will particularly enjoy this activity.

Activity #4:  The Piano

If you ever wondered which family of instruments the piano belongs to, watch this and see if you can tell… (Hint: the piano actually belongs to two families!)
