Activity #1:  Peter and the Wolf

On the MusicPlay website there are a series of 4 lessons that introduce us to the musical story Peter and the Wolf by Sergei Prokofieff. In lessons 1 – 3 you learn about the characters in the story and the instruments that represent each character. In lesson 4 the full story of Peter and the Wolf is presented. There are two versions to watch – one is the 1946 Disney animation and the other is MusicPlay’s own version – take your pick! Click on the link below which will take you to the final activities…

Activity #2:  VSO Virtual Learning Hub

Our exploration of Peter and the Wolf has prepared us for our new adventure, which is a Virtual Field Trip to the VSO to meet the orchestra! Assistant Conductor of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, Andrew Crust, takes us on 7 different field trips to meet various orchestra members in their homes to talk about and play their instruments!

VSO Virtual Fieldtrip: Meet the Orchestra

Another series of videos has been created to teach about some of the lesser known instruments of the orchestra by the members who play them – the viola, oboe, bassoon, etc. – at this link:

Do You Really Know the…

There is also a read-aloud to listen to by one of the clarinetists, Michelle Goddard, of the book “Because” by Mo Willems. Each week new stories are being added so be sure to check back often:

Activity #3:  Wash Your Lyrics!

I hope you are still working on adding lyrics to our school song “We Can Make a Difference”! When you have your verse ready, just email it to me at elise.heard@burnabyschools.ca so I can add them to our collection!

Ms. Stocker found this fun website where you can take your song lyrics you wrote, or lyrics from one of your favourite songs, and put them into a simple program that creates a Hand Washing poster for you!
