Welcome to my Aubrey families!

Music Play

Time to have fun with some musical activities! The MusicPlay website that we love to use is offering free student access right now, so let’s get started with some activities that many of you will be familiar with… Click on the following link:

http://www.musicplayonline.com

Username is snow and password is 2020. On the left hand side of the screen is a box with the title ONLINE LEARNING. This will lead you to a whole collection of lessons organized by grade level.

For my Kindergarten and grade 1 students, do you remember the song “Tingalayo”?! Click on lesson 2 in the Kindergarten section and you can sing along with a whole choir! Some actions are the same as we do and some are different, so try it and decide which actions you like better. You can even make up your own!

For grade 2 and 3 students, check out Grade 3, lesson 1 which has some fun activities with the song and game we love named “Stella Ella Olla”. Try the Solfa Challenge to see if you can “play” the correct notes while singing the song.

For my recorder players, if you brought home your recorder before Spring Break, I encourage you to continue on your journey of learning skills and songs to earn belts in our Recorder Karate program. We will figure out a way for you to play for me – either live or recorded – so you can carry on at your own pace.

For grades 5 – 7, you might have seen the youtube video of the 3 brothers from Ladner, B.C. who wrote a song encouraging everyone to stay at home during the Covid-19 outbreak! Check out the video under Grade 6, Lesson 1, which kicks off a song writing unit. As you progress through the unit you’ll notice our choir warm up “My Bonnie” – sing along with it! Then you can come up with a “piggyback” song of your own, using that tune. When we get back together at Aubrey, wouldn’t it be fun to test out some of your new versions?!

I would love to hear about what you have tried, so let me know how it goes!

Hello world!

I never thought I’d be greeting you all with a virtual hug, but just know that I am thinking about you and my arms are open wide! I hope this message finds you all healthy, relatively happy, and not too bored!

As an upside to this strange time, being at home will give me a chance to create this blog and provide you with some activities to help relieve that boredom and continue with our musical pursuits together in a different way.

This week I will be working on some ideas to get us started, so stay tuned and in the meantime, feel free to reach out to me! I miss you all!!
