**Just a friendly reminder that Monday, June 1 is a Professional Development Day there will be no class that day. I will be posting weekly lessons instead of daily lessons starting June 2. Please choose one activity from the list that I will provide. I will be teaching small groups at school and I may not respond promptly to your email. I will try my best to respond as soon as I can.**

Today’s Activities

Morning Meeting

• Print First and Last Name
• Print number 0-10 backwards (ex. 10 9 8 7…etc)
• Count to 10 song- Jack Hartman
• Returning To School During COVID-19 Social Story

Sink or Float! (STEM- Science Technology Engineering Math) ~ 30  Minutes

1. Watch Sink or Float video

2. Fill up your bathtub, sink or bucket with water. You can do this activity outside!

3. Gather 10 objects or toys.

4. Guess and make a prediction if your object will sink or float. Put your object in the water.

5. Optional: use recycled materials like yogurt containers, pop cans, etc. and create a boat that will float.

Alphabet Hunt (Literacy) ~ 15 Minutes

Today we are going to continue our Scavenger Hunt in our homes, backyards or patios.  You are going to find items that start with letters Ff through Jj today.

• Find an item, draw it, then add the letter it starts with next to it (or use kid-spelling to print the entire word). Don’t finish the entire alphabet today.
• Optional: you can create your own Alphabet book with your drawings!

Butterfly Directed Drawing (Art)~ 15 Minutes

1. Watch  the YouTube video. Follow the step-by – step instructions. (Side note: Parents you will have to pause the video after each step).

2. Decorate your butterfly (paint, markers, crayons)

Library with Mrs. Yee ~ 10 Minutes

Today’s Activities

Morning Meeting ~ 10 Minutes

• Print your First and Last Name
• Print numbers 0-10
• Brain Break (See YouTube video below)

2 Dimensional Shapes (Math) ~ 20 Minutes

1. Watch YouTube Video of Shapes

2. On a blank piece of paper draw a square, circle, triangle, and rectangle

3. Walk around your neighbourhood and see what 2 D shapes you can find.

4. Using your shape paper, document how many shapes you noticed on your walk. Example: every time you see a circle you put an X or check mark beside the circle.

5. Once you are at home, count how many circles, triangles, rectangles, and squares you saw during your walk.

For example: X X X X X X       Total Number: 6 Squares

I Spy ( Literacy) ~ 15 Minutes

1. Your child will either be in Letter group or Word/ Sentence group.
2. Letter Group:  Go through the 2 pictures. Once your child has successfully recognized all of the letters in the pictures. You can move onto I spy something that makes an f sound (frog)

• I Spy letters in the documents: E L T C W G F M

3. Word/ Sentence Group: 

• Watch the I Spy YouTube Video.
• Pause the video after each letter.
• Say the name of all the animals and objects with your child.
• Practice saying the letter sound
• See what objects start with the letter

Morning Meeting~10 Minutes

• Print First and Last name (using loose parts, paint, Play-Doh, or you can print your name normally)
• Spider Power Yoga

Activity: Create your own obstacle course!~ 30 Minutes

1. Watch Videos for inspiration!

2. Now choose a room to build your obstacle course.  You can also create an obstacle course outside! (Make sure it is in a safe area!)

3. On a blank piece of paper, draw a map of what your obstacle course would look like.

4. Gather the materials for your obstacle course.

5. Create your obstacle course! Make sure you test your obstacle course when you are building it! Decide if there will be any changes to your obstacle course.

Things to consider while building:

• Is this obstacle course safe?
• Is it too challenging? If so, how can I make it easier?
• Is it too easy? How can I make it more challenging?
• How can my family members help build the obstacle course?
• Can everyone in my family participate? (Sorry pets, you might not be able to participate this time!
• If I am working with my family, how can I make sure that their thoughts and opinions are being heard?

Morning Meeting ~ 10 minutes

• Spell your first and last name using your body

• What Zone are you in? (We ultimately want to be in the Green Zone)

Green Zone: Feeling Happy, Calm, Okay, or Ready to Learn

Yellow Zone: Feeling Silly, Hyper, Frustrated, or Upset

Blue Zone: Feeling Tired, bored, Sad, or Sick

Red Zone: Feeling Mad, Angry,

Writing Journal/ Story Workshop (Literacy) ~20 Minutes

1. Watch YouTube Video: Spring is Here

2) Your child can choose between drawing their story on paper or make a story using their loose parts.

3) Have your child create a story about if they were a bear hibernating what would be the first thing that they would do when they woke up?

4) Challenge: I want to see lots of details in your drawing or story workshop (loose parts). I also am challenging you to try your best to spell 3 words in your picture.

The Dot (Art) ~ 20 Minutes

1. Watch The Dot art read by Peter H. Reynolds (video).
2. Using art materials that are at your home create your own dot! You can use crayons, pencil crayons, markers, or paint!

Subtilize Up to 5 (Math) ~ 15 Minutes

1. Watch Jack Harman video. Have your child actively participate while watching the video.
2. Have your child draw dots up to five on sticky notes or cut a piece of paper into rectangles like in the video.
3. Play a game! Quickly show the sticky note to your child. Your child will have to quickly say the correct number. Take turns! You can also do number up to 10 for a challenge.

• Print your first and last name using a capital letter at the beginning followed by lower case letters. (Challenge: Print your name backwards) For example: Ms.Harstone – Backwards: enotsraH.sM

Number Scavenger Hunt (Math)~ 30 Minutes

1. Using sticky notes or a blank piece of paper with tape attached to the back. Write number 0 to 10 and stick the notes around your house without your child seeing. For example, one piece of paper with 0, one piece of paper with 1, etc.
2. Have your child find each number. Before they can take the note off the wall they have to name the correct number. Parents you may have to assist your child with this game. If they get stuck on the number give them a clue by providing the number correspondence (for example, if your child is stuck on the number 3, you can show them 3 crayons). Play as long as your child is interested.
3. Once your child has found all the numbers they can find different objects relating to each number. (For example, the number 1, your child can find 1 sock).
4. Have your child choose 3 numbers that they want to practice writing. Have your child write each number 5 times. (For example, 2 2 2 2 2, 10 10 10 10 10, 5 5 5 5 5).

Music with Mrs. Raap~ 15 Minutes

Field Trip!

Today we are going on a Virtual Field trip to the Aquarium! We are going to the Monterey Bay Aquarium that is located in California, United States of America. Feel free to explore all of the animals that live at the zoo.

1. Look at all of the live Animal Cams.
2. Pick one animal to observe. Notice the colour of the animal.
3. Think about these questions:  How does the animal move? What do you think the animal eats? What do you think the animal needs in order to survive?
4. Once you have thought of these questions I want you to draw the animal on a blank piece of paper. Please use realistic colours (e.g. the penguin is black and white, not pink and blue).

Take a picture of you work!
