We want to catch you up on some of our learning journey over the last couple of months!
As mathematicians, we have been exploring the question What is 100? Through different activities we have been exploring estimating and building our understanding of what 100 looks like using different collections of objects.
We have also been exploring the big idea equals means the same, and have continued to explore math through story.
During our Number Talks, we have had a chance to practice noticing, wondering, and sharing our thinking around different mathematical concepts and ideas.
As authors and story tellers, we have continued to find and share our stories. As we focus on story elements, we had a chance to make our own characters out of natural materials. When we return from spring break, we will work on developing our characters and using them in our stories!
We have also been focusing on sharing true stories from our lives. See our ePortfolios for examples and our reflections on our writing.
As scientists, we have continued to explore local plants, mainly trees, that live in our school yard. We have recently began exploring how trees get nutrients, and have been focusing on the questions “where do trees get water?”This has led to our inquiry into water and the water cycle. We have had the chance to make observations in the fog, go on puddle hunts and investigate how the puddles change over a number of days. Our observations led to conversations about water collection, condensation, evaporation, precipitation, transpiration, and the role the sun plays in the water cycle. We will continue our inquiry when we return from spring break.
As citizens, we have been exploring how healthy communities recognize and respect the diversity of individuals. We have been investigating and sharing parts of our own identities. Most recently, we worked with our families to create a memory bag with items that are important to us, our families, and cultures. We then had a chance to present our memory bags to our classmates. Please see our ePortfolios for examples.
Have a wonderful Spring Break !
