Welcome back!!
We were very excited to see our friends this week and to have recess and lunch with them (L.C). We enjoyed connecting with and playing with our peers at school (A.M).
We also enjoyed getting back into mindful drawing (T.D). We do this after lunch to help us find our calm bodies and to get ready to learn.
We are scientists!
We watched a short video and did some noticing and wondering (V.K). In the video, we saw a time lapse of two plants whose leaves were “blowing, growing, and moving in and out”. Some questions that we have following the video are:
“Why were the leaves opening and closing?”
“Was it the wind that was moving the plants?”
“Why is the small plant growing taller and the big plant growing larger?”
This will guide us in our scientific inquiry about living and non-living things and local plants and animals.
We are authors, storytellers, and readers!
This week we started our popcorn words! To get started, we decided to have a popcorn party! Students have taken home their word rings with their popcorn words, also known as sight words, to practice and become familiar with. Once they are comfortable with the words they have at home, they will bring them back to school to get the next set of words.
We also enjoyed starting our Story Workshop back up again (G. M) ! We set goals for ourselves as writers and have continued to work on the process of planning, writing, and editing our stories.
As a class we have started to build criteria for our story writing. This week we focused on creating BIG, BOLD and BEAUTIFUL pictures and writing and decided what this looks like in our stories. To make our writing Big, Bold and Beautiful we will add lots of detail and try to make our words clear (leaving spaces and using spelling strategies discussed in class). To make our pictures Big, Bold, and Beautiful, we will make our pictures detailed and colourful (A. W-G).
We have continued to explore the question “What are our stories?”. This week, we made family portraits using clay, pastels, loose parts, and string.
We are citizens!
A goal we are working on in our classroom is being quick, quiet and focused when we are moving from one activity to another.
Have a wonderful weekend!
