This week we want our families to know that…
We are citizens
Ms. Lewis joined us and Ms. Brolin’s class on Thursday for a celebration of her and her retirement (V.K). With Ms. Brolin’s class we wet felted a Mood Meter and made a book of the things that we want Ms. Lewis to feel and what she can do to help her feel these ways (A.G-W). We feel bad that she is retiring because we will miss her, and we wanted to give her a gift. She was so happy (R.A).
We are working on the Core Competencies. They include Communication, Thinking (critical and creative thinking), and Personal and Social Awareness and Responsibility. These are the skills that we develop and use as lifelong learners and educated citizens. Some of the Core Competencies we are currently focusing on are sharing our ideas and building on other people’s ideas (C. G-M).
Heart, Mind, and Body
We have a new sensory pathway in the hallway! It is still under construction and we are still looking for a name for it! We use it as calm track, where we can calm and move our bodies (A.M). For more information, ask us about it !
We continue to use our own Mood Meter to check in each day (R.A). This helps us to communicate how we are feeling and is supporting us in our understanding of recognizing and labelling emotions in ourselves and others.
We are authors and readers
We have continued to develop strategies to support us in our writing. We are working on looking around the room for words, stretching the word to listen for letter sounds, and, if we are unsure, asking classmates at our table (R.A).
We have also been learning some poems (T. D). Each poem is added to student’s poetry book and will be taken home to be shared with families in the future!
We have continued to work on creating our puppet theater, and are excited to use it to support us in story telling!
Have a wonderful weekend!
