Here is a glimpse into some of our learning over the last couple of weeks.
As Mathematicians, we have been exploring 10s and 1s. We investigated tens and ones by exploring patterns that live in a hundred chart. We have also been exploring how 10s and 1s can be used to join numbers and how concrete models can show decomposing using place value.
As Citizens, we have continued to discuss and explore our relationship with those around us. This week, students had the chance to take part in peer reflections, offering comments that will be included in their classmates progress reports. We also had a chance to explore the gifts that we bring to our classroom, as well as to share the gifts that our classmates bring to our classroom. We practiced appreciation towards those in our community by writing comments on self portraits of our classmates. These words of kindness and appreciation will be something that students can take home at the end of the year.
As Scientists, we have been exploring light! We have been recording what we see, think, and wonder as we explore light and the ways in which it interacts with different materials. We will continue to explore the properties of light over the next week.
As Readers, we have started to practice our new Reader’s Theater scripts. We have also been doing Reader of the Day, where one of our classmates volunteers to share a favourite story with the class.
As Authors, we have continued to explore different ways to plan our stories, including painting, using pictures, sharing with a peer or the class, and using loose parts. We have been working really hard to include a title, add lots of details, make all sentences belong, add talking to make our stories come alive, and add feelings in our writing. After completing our writing, we have been working on editing by re-reading our writing and sharing with a peer or the teacher.
