Here are some of the highlights from our week that we would like to share with our families.
We have been learning about bears! As a class, we engaged in an inquiry of bears. We started by exploring pictures of bears, where we had the opportunity to share what we notice, what we wonder, and what we know about bears. We then organized our questions and decided on what we would like to learn about bears. Students then worked in small groups to explore books and videos to gather information for their inquiry booklet.
Inquiry Booklets adapted from Rebecca Bathurst-Hunt.
Here is some information that we learned about bears that we would like to share with you:
- During hibernation, bears don’t sleep, they put their bodies on pause (A. W-G;P.M)
- Bears have long tongues, big paws and sharp claws (R.A)
- Bears have their babies in the winter (L.C)
- We play a role in helping to keep bears safe. Be kind to bears, this means not feeding them (C.G-M)
We also played Get Ready To Hibernate, an activity from Mystery Science. The game is a memory card game where students have to match food cards in order to feed their bear to get ready for hibernation.
We look forward to learning more about local plants and animals!
Have a wonderful spring break!
