Second Step is a program that teaches children skills for social and academic success.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">Our topic is:\u00a0<b>Emotional Management<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">This weeks lesson: <strong>Handling Being Knocked Down<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">Lesson Concepts:<\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li class=\"x_MsoListParagraphCxSpFirst\">When you get hurt, its important to calm down before you do anything else<\/li>\n<li class=\"x_MsoListParagraphCxSpLast\">You need to ask for more information and not assume that the action was on purpose<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">Today we are going to explore what we can do when we get knocked down.\u00a0 Listen to the story\u00a0<i>Horrible Bear\u00a0<\/i>about what happens if you assume something was done on purpose.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"HORRIBLE BEAR by Ame Dyckman and Zachariah Ohora - Children&#039;s Book Read Aloud\" width=\"1400\" height=\"788\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/NfuoOaHV2Cg?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><b>Think, turn, tell:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li class=\"x_MsoListParagraphCxSpFirst\">Did the bear mean to break the kite?<\/li>\n<li class=\"x_MsoListParagraphCxSpMiddle\">Did the little girl know it was an accident?<\/li>\n<li class=\"x_MsoListParagraphCxSpMiddle\">How do you think the little girl felt when her kite saw that her kite was broken?<\/li>\n<li class=\"x_MsoListParagraphCxSpLast\">What could the little girl have done differently?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">Instead of getting really mad and yelling \u201cHorrible Bear!\u201d, the little girl needed to calm down!\u00a0\u00a0 After she calmed down, she should have asked the bear if it was an <strong>accident<\/strong>.\u00a0 It is important to find out what happened because sometimes, things happen by <strong>accident<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">When you\u2019re playing with someone and you get hurt, it\u2019s important to <strong>calm down<\/strong> before you do something that might hurt others.\u00a0 Sometimes we get upset or frustrated, but its not okay to hurt others.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">Use a calm voice to tell the person that you\u2019re hurt, and then <strong>ask what happened<\/strong>. Focusing your attention on the other person\u2019s face can help you understand what happened. This is called\u00a0<b>empathy<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">When you hurt someone by accident, it\u2019s important to let the person know that you didn\u2019t to do it and that you\u2019re sorry.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><b>Think, turn, tell<\/b>: If you hurt someone by accident, what could you say?\u00a0<strong> (I\u2019m sorry.
