Second Step is a program that teaches children skills for social and academic success.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">Our topic is:\u00a0 <strong>Emotional Management.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">This weeks lesson:<b>\u00a0 Managing Frustrations<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">Lesson Concepts:<\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li class=\"x_MsoListParagraphCxSpFirst\">Feelings vary in strength.<\/li>\n<li class=\"x_MsoListParagraphCxSpMiddle\">Feelings that are strong need to be managed.<\/li>\n<li class=\"x_MsoListParagraphCxSpLast\">Saying &#8220;Stop&#8221; and naming your feelings are ways to begin to calm down.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">Let\u2019s learn how to calm down strong feelings. Think about a time you felt frustrated. You can be a little bit frustrated or very frustrated. When you are very frustrated, you\u2019re having a strong feeling.\u00a0 Frustrated feelings can happen when you\u2019re trying to do something hard or learning something new. Maybe you\u2019re doing a puzzle, and the pieces won\u2019t fit together.\u00a0 Maybe you are trying to get your parents attention and they are busy at that time.\u00a0 Being frustrated is an uncomfortable feeling.\u00a0 That uncomfortable feeling is a clue that you need to calm down.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><b>Think, turn, tell:<\/b> Tell your grown up about a time that you felt frustrated.\u00a0 Some examples are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"x_MsoNormal\">You can&#8217;t figure out how to do a math problem.<\/li>\n<li class=\"x_MsoNormal\">You tore a hole in your favourite pants.<\/li>\n<li class=\"x_MsoNormal\">You are cutting out a star, and you have cut off one of the points.<\/li>\n<li class=\"x_MsoNormal\">You can&#8217;t zip up\u00a0 your coat.<\/li>\n<li class=\"x_MsoNormal\">Someone just took your turn on the swing.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">Practice putting your hands on your tummy, to check in with your body.\u00a0 Say STOP! and name your feeling.<\/p>\n<p>Now let&#8217;s listen to &#8220;The Calm-Down Song.&#8221;\u00a0 Sing along to the chorus if you can.\u00a0 Put your hands on your tummy and say &#8220;Stop&#8221; when you hear &#8220;tummy&#8221; and &#8220;stop.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Second Step: The Calm Down Song\" width=\"1400\" height=\"788\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/vs0CgHZdNcc?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Remember to go to Ms. Quin&#8217;s Blog for week three of music and movement activities.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/quin-music\/\">http:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/quin-music\/<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Every Friday Division 9 &amp; 10 get together to work on Second Step.
