The children had a wonderful week of fun singing carols, decorating gingerbread men and eating a pancake breakfast.  Many thanks to all the volunteers who helped to make this such a special time!

Spirit Bears

Division 7 has been learning all about Black Bears.  Spirit Bears are a type of black bear that has white fur.  They are very rare.  Spirit Bears live in the rain forests of British Columbia.  They are endangered animals because a great deal of their habitat has been lost to logging.  The Great Bear Rainforest on the coast of our province was established in 2016 to preserve some of the rain forest.

First Nations tell a story about how, a long time ago, the world was white.  Raven decided he would make the world green.  He kept Spirit Bears white to remind First Nations of the way the world was at the beginning of time.

We made these Spirit Bears to remind us that it is very important that we protect our world and the animals that live here.

Readers must learn to use many strategies in order to become independent readers.  Here are the strategies we can use to figure out unknown words:

eagle-eye

Eagle Eye: Look at the Pictures

lips-the-fish

Lips the Fish:  Say the first sound

stretchy-snake

Stretchy Snake: Stretch it out

You can help your child at home by reminding him/her to use these strategies when he/she gets stuck on a word!
