Student Leds

original-386706-1Hello Everybody,

Division 5 was busy preparing for Student Leds.  They have been working hard all year and had selected some work they are very proud of to share during Student Led conferences.   Hope you all enjoyed having your parents come visit our classroom.  Boys and girls, what were some things you shared with them and Parents, what were some things you learned from your child?  Please feel free to share your answers and comments!

Aboriginal Studies

We have been learning about Aboriginal Culture with a focus on the Inuit of Northern Canada.  In December, Div. 5 did an impressive job drawing and using bright colors (oil pastels) used in the style of the famous artist Ted Harrison.  They replicated some of his most famous works.  We have had many compliments on our bulletin board! : P  What artists!  Please check out the Gallery page above to see these beautiful pictures!IMG_5378

At the moment the boys and girls are working on a Stop Motion movie. There job is to create a short Stopmotion movie based on one of the 7 Sacred Teachings from the Aboriginal Culture and to tie in one of the Aboriginal World Perspectives.  Boys and Girls could you tell me which teaching you had and give us a sneak peak on what your movie will be about? It has been great to see you all working well in your groups and watching the whole process.

Winter Wonderland

On Friday, January 15 Division 5 had an amazing time entering a “Winter Wonderland”.  Snowshoeing was hard work, but fun.  Boys and Girls, what did our guide Phil teach you during out trek through the snow?  What things did you see on our adventure and what was your favourite thing up on Grouse Mountain?  I am very proud of all of you and I didn’t hear anyone tell me they were tired while snowshoeing! Here are some pictures of our day! Click on the snowflakes!snowf

Getting Ready for the Winter Holidays…

imagesDivision 5 was busy at work creating beautiful winter trees against the enchanting Northern Lights as gifts for their loved ones.  White feathery owls were brought to life out of toilet paper rolls.  Descriptive winter paragraphs were written to create a beautiful image for the readers.  Hope you all liked your gifts, Parents!  Enjoy the photos of the kids at work.

December Fun!

December_calender_1920x1080Can you believe that we are already nearing our winter break?  I honestly feel like it was just  last week you were doing the “Thriller” dance!  It must mean we have been very busy.  W just had Scientist Sima from High Touch High Tech come in to help us conclude our “Light” exploration.  You were all such great scientists.  Tell me about an experiment or something you observed that day!

Also, it was fantastic to finally see your PowerPoint presentations you have been working hard on and to hear you present.  I hope you learned a lot from each other.  It was wonderful learning more about you and your families!  Here are some photos of you so far in December working on your Ted Harrison landscapes, playing math games, doing presentations, and being scientists!  Click on the Snowman!

Visiting the Aquarium

What a day we had last Friday exploring the Vancouver Aquarium.  It was awesome to get up close to all the interesting creatures in the exhibits.  Hope you all learned some new and interesting facts when visiting each exhibit.  We will be learning about the Inuit and the Arctic and in Science we learned about bioluminescence.  Did you see any creatures who had that adaptation?  The 4D show was fabulous…even if we got squirted in our faces!  LOL!  Tell me something you liked or learned about at the Aquarium!  What was your favourite thing?  I LOVED, LOVED, LOVED gazing at the jellyfish!IMG_4614

Here are some photos I took (click on the photo).  If you have any you want to share with the class please put them on a usb and I will add them!

October events

Hi All,

October was a fantastic month.  It is always a busy time as students are learning to be a united class, getting to know each other, and getting into the groove of being in school and learning the routines of my classroom.  We also get to celebrate some fun events like Thanksgiving and Halloween.  The children were excited about working with their buddies for the first time!  I wanted to share some photos of our class.

Exploring Light

Boys & Girls,

We have been spending some time learning about “Light” in Science class.  Please let me know something you learned this term about the topic.  Remember to use the scientific terminology learned to explain things.  You all did a great job writing up your first 2 Science labs and conducting the experiments.  Here are some pictures of you working together!  Click on the photo!
