Work and Play

Hi All,

Here are some great photos of Division working and playing over the last few months.  It is so wonderful to see them interacting with each other so well, exploring, learning, and sharing.  In this album, you will see photos of them during the dance assembly where they rocked their number  and had skating lessons in January, the Valentine’s day Party and working on the Cardboard Challenge in February, playing basketball during some free time, a birthday photo,  their trip to Burnaby South to see the Science Fair, their art submission for Arts Alive and pictures of them sharing their group stories.  What great memories! : )

It’s Astonishing! It’s April Already!

Hello Everybody,

March seemed like a blip in the school year, having had two weeks off for spring break.  The boys and girls are continuing on in 3rd term, knowing the routines so well by now.  I will include some photos taken before the holidays.

Track season has started and I am thrilled that the majority of my class were interested in joining.  They have been training well and have learned to pass a baton and sprint and run longer distances.  Thanks to parent volunteers all students were able to attend our first after school track meet.  What a fun time it was!images

Division 5 was introduced to, “The Greatest Love of All” by Whitney Houston, the song they will be performing in May.  It has such an important and beautiful message.  Boys and Girls, please practice!  Don’t forget to think about what you will be wearing! ; )

Aboriginal Studies

We have been learning about Aboriginal Culture with a focus on the Inuit of Northern Canada.  In December, Div. 5 did an impressive job drawing and using bright colors (oil pastels) used in the style of the famous artist Ted Harrison.  They replicated some of his most famous works.  We have had many compliments on our bulletin board! : P  What artists!  Please check out the Gallery page above to see these beautiful pictures!IMG_5378

At the moment the boys and girls are working on a Stop Motion movie. There job is to create a short Stopmotion movie based on one of the 7 Sacred Teachings from the Aboriginal Culture and to tie in one of the Aboriginal World Perspectives.  Boys and Girls could you tell me which teaching you had and give us a sneak peak on what your movie will be about? It has been great to see you all working well in your groups and watching the whole process.

Getting Ready for the Winter Holidays…

imagesDivision 5 was busy at work creating beautiful winter trees against the enchanting Northern Lights as gifts for their loved ones.  White feathery owls were brought to life out of toilet paper rolls.  Descriptive winter paragraphs were written to create a beautiful image for the readers.  Hope you all liked your gifts, Parents!  Enjoy the photos of the kids at work.

December Fun!

December_calender_1920x1080Can you believe that we are already nearing our winter break?  I honestly feel like it was just  last week you were doing the “Thriller” dance!  It must mean we have been very busy.  W just had Scientist Sima from High Touch High Tech come in to help us conclude our “Light” exploration.  You were all such great scientists.  Tell me about an experiment or something you observed that day!

Also, it was fantastic to finally see your PowerPoint presentations you have been working hard on and to hear you present.  I hope you learned a lot from each other.  It was wonderful learning more about you and your families!  Here are some photos of you so far in December working on your Ted Harrison landscapes, playing math games, doing presentations, and being scientists!  Click on the Snowman!

Awesome Thriller Dancing!

Division 5…you are awesome!  You all looked so amazing doing the dance…so much energy and so cool!  I’ve already had so many compliments on how well you boys and girl did!  Thanks for being super stars!  I’m actually going to miss practicing the dance in the morning!

Here is a video one parent took (click on the pic below)…if there are any others I can post them too.  Let me know!  Enjoy!

May Happenings!

IMG_3340Hi All,

We’ve had a pretty busy month so far.  Everyone is continuing to work so hard and accomplishing such great things, for examples, your beautiful paintings in the style of Van Gogh, your pretty cards you made for your moms (Hope they liked your present!) and the enchanting butterflies for the Volunteer Tea.  Here are some photos! : )

Where did February and March Go?

Hi Everyone,

2nd term flew by! Right?  We were so busy with finishing up our second term that it made time go by so quickly.  Here are some nice memories of those last 2 months!  Div. 5 got to learn about the game of golf and got to practice their swing and putting.  They did a fun buddy activity with their youngest buddies in kindergarten on the ipads.  Here is the video!  I think their trees made of Valentine hearts are just gorgeous in the hallway.  Also, the  did a fantastic job doing a group Science project on severe weather.  They were extremely creative in writing a skit to teach about their chosen weather/storm.  Having 2 weeks off was awesome for spring break and it was nice to hear about what everybody did when we got back to school.
