Our New Learning Experience

Hello Div. 7,

Welcome to our class blog!  I hope you are all doing well, keeping healthy, and managing the many changes in your lives right now.  I have been thinking about all of you and wondering how you have been coping.  You may be experiencing many different emotions and these are all normal reactions to this abnormal or different situation.  I believe you are all doing a lot by keeping yourselves and others safe by social distancing, washing your hands often, getting a good sleep and eating properly.

As this is a class blog, I am encouraging you to interact with it as much as possible.  Below this post you will find an area where you can leave a comment. You will soon be given an ID and password sent through your parent’s email.  Please add these to your planner on a special page, so you can find it and have your parents write it down for safe keeping.  Then you can start posting your thoughts and answers.

Please make a comment and let me know what you have been doing to keep healthy! What kinds of interesting things have you been doing at home? Outside? Let me know!  Your comments will not automatically post.  An e-mail will be sent to me to be checked before it is allowed to be made public.

This will be a new learning experience for you and I.  I want you to know that it will be quite different than when we were attending all together in room 11, but I will try and make it just as fun!  I am hoping to continue to interact with you through blog posts, through small group meetings in Microsoft Teams, which you will be notified about soon and through Office 365 where you will continue to share your work.

We will go about this in “baby steps”, so it does not add tons of pressure on us or overwhelm us.  Since many of you need to share devices with siblings and even parents, teachers will be trying to create activities that can be done at any time during the day or evening.  It’s also important to make sure you aren’t always stuck on a “device” and that you make time for other activities like exercising, writing, reading and art.  Don’t forget to comment on some other interesting  things you have been doing to keep yourself from getting super BORED!

Love,

Ms. Gabas

  3. Hi everyone I miss you all. I had been staying at home for about 3 weeks. In order to stay safe and healthy at home, I wash my hand for 20 seconds with hand soap and drink warm water as much as I can every day. My mom cooks healthy soup for us to keep us healthy. I use salty warm water to kill the bacteria in my mouth. In order to kill viruses and bacteria, I use disinfectants to clean my house. I hope everyone stays safe and healthy at home.

    1. Kadin,
You have shared some fantastic tips to stay healthy during this time! I’m sure everyone will learn from your post. What kinds of soup are you having? What’s your favorite soup? I try to make a pot of soup each week and freeze some too. What kinds of work have you been doing at home to practice your skills? Have you been going outside to get fresh air?

  4. Hello Ms. Gabas, I am doing well. I am missing my school and friends. I’ve been walking with my family. I practice daily my Taekwondo and piano. I have been working on Tynker. I have been learning multiplication and division. I play video games with my friends online. I have been following the COVID 19 live map. I feel sad as there are 924,468 cases, 46,409 deaths, 195,329 recovered in total as of now. I want more people to recover. Stay safe and heathy.

    1. Hi Akash,
It was so great to speak to you and your parents over the phone today! I’m glad you are all keeping well. I miss school also. I really wish we could go back soon! You have been keeping very busy, which is nice. I see your progress on Tynker! Keep going! What’s been a hard problem to solve when working in Tynker, now that you are at such a high level? I too, am very sad about how many people are sick and dying because of Covid-19. We are all in this together, by staying home right now.

  5. Hi, Ms.Gabas. I’m okay. On March 31st we went outside & made a giant egg with tape & colored it with chalk. I also eat healthy food, wash my hands for 30 seconds & play in my backyard. Bye!

  7. Hi Miss Gabas I have been doing some work like writing stories about Covid-19 and how it has been affecting the whole world and some online splashmath that my Aunt has been giving me online as she made me an account. I have been playing sports like soccer, hockey, basketball and catch with a baseball and a glove with my dad. I have also been on a device a lot so I will limit. I also baked banana bread, cinnamon buns and cookies. I also have been making tiktoks. I got a new bike that is higher so I have been going for bike rides. I am very excited to go on Microsoft teams and talk to my friends and you.

    1. Hi Chaytin! You have indeed been keeping busy! I’m impressed that you are making Tiktoks, baking, being active and practicing your skills! Reading about all those things you made are making me hungry!! What will you make next? I’m glad you are getting outside for fresh air. It is really good for our health! Yes, it will be great to connect on Teams! Maybe you can share your writing!

  8. Hello Ms. Gabas, I have been doing a lot of sports like running and riding my scooter, when I can do them that is. Doing lots of math, in fact, I just finished the geometry unit in math. I have been playing my ukulele. Building a lot of lego houses. Finally washing my hands a Lot! I have also wrote a lot of stories and read a lot of books. See you later Ms. Gabas!

    1. HI Jasmine,
I’m so glad you are getting out to run and ride your scooter. It’s a great way to exercise and it makes you feel better…especially when you’ve been cooped up all day! I get cabin fever, so I try to do Youtube exercises when it’s raining and I try to go on walks daily. It will be great to see some of your creations at our class meetings on TEAMS! What songs are you playing on the ukulele? Do you try and make your own songs? Any new joke creations of late?

  9. Well I have been playing songs like wipe out and the flintstones. I also had an epiphany for a joke I will say it later I’m saving it for later!
