{"id":1954,"date":"2016-09-28T17:07:38","date_gmt":"2016-09-29T00:07:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/fischerj\/?p=1954"},"modified":"2016-09-28T17:08:52","modified_gmt":"2016-09-29T00:08:52","slug":"math-with-nature","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/fischerj\/2016\/09\/28\/math-with-nature\/","title":{"rendered":"Math with Nature&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In our first math unit this year, we are learning about patterns.<\/p>\n<p>So far we have been:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>using a variety of manipulatives in the classroom to create patterns<\/li>\n<li>recreating patterns using our bodies (action patterns, chicken dance)<\/li>\n<li>creating patterns using crayons to colour<\/li>\n<li>cutting and gluing pictures to make patterns<\/li>\n<li>translating patterns at calendar time (colours, letters, words, numbers&#8230;)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Today we\u00a0worked in small groups to create patterns with items found in nature. \u00a0We were assigned groups and had criteria we had to meet:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>choose a pattern to create with your group (e.g. ABAB, ABCABC&#8230;)<\/li>\n<li>decide what &#8216;nature&#8217; items you would use to represent your pattern<\/li>\n<li>collect enough of the nature\u00a0items to make sure your pattern repeated 3 times<\/li>\n<li>create your pattern together<\/li>\n<li>show your pattern (to Ms. Fischer for a photo)<\/li>\n<li>use a chalk to circle the <strong>core\u00a0<\/strong>(the part that repeats) of your pattern<\/li>\n<li>REPEAT!<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Check out our work!<\/p>\n<p><img class=\"ngg_displayed_gallery mceItem\" src=\"http:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/fischerj\/nextgen-attach_to_post\/preview\/id--1987\" data-mce-placeholder=\"1\" \/><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/fischerj\/2015\/11\/13\/lego-math\/i-love-math-face\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-532\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-532 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/fischerj\/files\/2014\/03\/i-love-math-face-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"i love math face\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/fischerj\/files\/2014\/03\/i-love-math-face-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/fischerj\/files\/2014\/03\/i-love-math-face.jpg 200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In our first math unit this year, we are learning about patterns.
