{"id":1693,"date":"2016-01-17T10:15:40","date_gmt":"2016-01-17T18:15:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/fischerj\/?p=1693"},"modified":"2016-01-17T10:15:40","modified_gmt":"2016-01-17T18:15:40","slug":"measurement-in-math","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/fischerj\/2016\/01\/17\/measurement-in-math\/","title":{"rendered":"Measurement In Math"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\">We have started a new unit in math since coming back from the winter break&#8211;<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Measurement<\/strong><\/span>.<\/h3>\n<p>So far we have been working on<strong> comparing<\/strong> objects to determine:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>longer<\/li>\n<li>shorter<\/li>\n<li>or about the same as<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Our\u00a0lessons include:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Wiggly Worms<\/span><\/strong>&#8211;we each created a worm, and then placed them in order from shortest to longest by comparing our worms with those made by our classmates<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/fischerj\/files\/2016\/01\/DSC02606.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-1696 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/fischerj\/files\/2016\/01\/DSC02606-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"DSC02606\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><span style=\"color: #ff00ff;\">How tall are you?<\/span><\/strong>&#8211;we worked together in groups of 10 to measure each other with string and then with partners to place our strings along a <strong>baseline<\/strong> to compare how tall we are with our classmates.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/fischerj\/files\/2016\/01\/DSC02605.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-1695 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/fischerj\/files\/2016\/01\/DSC02605-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"DSC02605\" width=\"150\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/fischerj\/files\/2016\/01\/DSC02605-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/fischerj\/files\/2016\/01\/DSC02605.jpg 360w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ffcc00;\">Chain Challenge<\/span>&#8211;each Kindergarten student was given one piece of construction paper and asked to construct the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">longest<\/span> paper chain they could make&#8230;Congratulations to our winner!!!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/fischerj\/files\/2016\/01\/DSC02604.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-1699 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/fischerj\/files\/2016\/01\/DSC02604-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"DSC02604\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Hopefully you have seen some of the work we have done&#8230;we have constructed a bulletin board display in the hallway to showcase some of our work&#8211;feel free to come check it out!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/fischerj\/files\/2016\/01\/DSC02607.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-1694 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/fischerj\/files\/2016\/01\/DSC02607-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"DSC02607\" width=\"307\" height=\"307\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Coming up this week, we will use a variety of &#8216;objects&#8217; \u00a0(paper clips, popsicle sticks, straws, and unifix cubes) to measure items in our classroom and pencil boxes&#8230;watch for our measurement books!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We have started a new unit in math since coming back from the winter break&#8211;Measurement.
