{"id":1590,"date":"2015-10-31T10:53:30","date_gmt":"2015-10-31T17:53:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/fischerj\/?p=1590"},"modified":"2015-10-31T10:53:30","modified_gmt":"2015-10-31T17:53:30","slug":"the-observation-of-trees","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/fischerj\/2015\/10\/31\/the-observation-of-trees\/","title":{"rendered":"The Observation Of Trees"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Earlier this week we took advantage of the sunny day to spend some time outside. \u00a0Our mission was to observe the trees and sketch them (just like old time scientists!). \u00a0We have started a Nature Journal\u00a0that we will continue\u00a0to add to throughout the seasons.<\/p>\n<p>As an <em>Education Through The Arts<\/em> school we try to incorporate activities that develop skills across several curricular areas.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\">What are the learning outcomes we were\u00a0working on\u00a0in our Nature Journal this week?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000;\">SCIENCE<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>communicate their observations, experiences, and thinking in a variety of ways (e.g., verbally, pictorially, graphically) (Gr. 1)<\/li>\n<li>with teacher support, clearly organize and record observations using graphs, pictures, symbols, and\/or words (Gr. 1)<\/li>\n<li>illustrate and record changes that occur throughout the seasons (e.g., flowers blooming, snow melting, leaves falling, lakes freezing) (Gr. 1)<\/li>\n<li>use the five senses to make observations (K)<\/li>\n<li>draw features of items observed (e.g., two different plants growing in the schoolyard) (K)<\/li>\n<li>illustrate local plants and animals in a variety of ways (e.g., painting, collages, sculptures) (K)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000;\">VISUAL ARTS<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>create images in response to something they observed and experienced (Gr. 1)<\/li>\n<li>create images in response to something they observed (e.g., touching a leaf, watching a soccer game) (K)<\/li>\n<li>create images featuring line (e.g., straight, wavy, curvy, thick, thin) (Gr. 1 &amp; K)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Here are some photos of us hard at work:<\/p>\n<p>[metaslider id=1592]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Earlier this week we took advantage of the sunny day to spend some time outside. \u00a0Our mission was to observe the trees and sketch them (just like old time scientists!). \u00a0We have started a Nature Journal\u00a0that we will continue\u00a0to add to throughout the seasons.
