{"id":1428,"date":"2015-02-13T18:00:23","date_gmt":"2015-02-14T02:00:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/fischerj\/?p=1428"},"modified":"2015-02-13T18:00:23","modified_gmt":"2015-02-14T02:00:23","slug":"math-you-can-eat","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/fischerj\/2015\/02\/13\/math-you-can-eat\/","title":{"rendered":"Math You Can EAT!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Today is one of our favourite days in math&#8211;Math you can EAT!!!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; color: #ff0000;\">This time it was M-M-M-Marshmallows!<\/span><\/p>\n<p>[metaslider id=1433]<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">We each start with a booklet and a zippy bag of mini marshmallows, and make an<strong> estimate\u00a0<\/strong>of how many we think are in the bag. \u00a0We record that estimate, then move on to\u00a0<strong>sorting<\/strong> the marshmallows by colour. \u00a0After sorting we\u00a0<strong>graph<\/strong> our information, making sure we use <strong>one to one correspondence<\/strong> as we count. \u00a0We then use the graph to transfer the information into <strong>numerals<\/strong>. \u00a0Finding out how many of each colour we have, and then how many we have altogether. \u00a0Then we make a <strong>picture graph<\/strong>\u00a0of our coloured marshmallows. \u00a0And finally, we chose our favourite colour and then <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">EAT!!!<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">We are learning so much from this one activity:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Kindergarten:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">compare quantities, 1 to 10, using one-to-one correspondence<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">represent and describe numbers 2 to 10, concretely and pictorially<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">relate a numeral, 1 to 10, to its respective quantity<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">sort 3-D objects using a single attribute<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Grade One:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">demonstrate an understanding of counting by indicating that the last number said identifies \u201chow many\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">represent and describe numbers to 20 concretely, pictorially, and symbolically<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">estimate quantities to 20 by using referents<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">sort 3-D objects and 2-D shapes using one attribute<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; color: #0000ff;\">Who wouldn&#8217;t love math????<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/fischerj\/files\/2014\/03\/i-love-math-face.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-532\" src=\"http:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/fischerj\/files\/2014\/03\/i-love-math-face-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"i love math face\" width=\"98\" height=\"98\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/fischerj\/files\/2014\/03\/i-love-math-face-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/fischerj\/files\/2014\/03\/i-love-math-face.jpg 200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 98px) 100vw, 98px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Today is one of our favourite days in math&#8211;Math you can EAT!!!
