\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Earlier this week we used magazines to find things that were &#8220;little&#8221; and &#8220;big&#8221; (check out the bulletin board in the hallway to see our results). \u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">We have also used a brand new pencil as a referent and found\u00a0classroom items that were\u00a0&#8220;longer&#8221;, &#8220;shorter&#8221;, and &#8220;about the same&#8221; size (as the new pencil).\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Today we compared distances traveled by hot wheels cars in our classroom.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Materials:<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">3 different coloured hot wheels cars<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">3 crayons (that match the colours of the cars)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">pencil<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">a ramp<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">a recording sheet<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Method:<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">record names on sheet with pencil<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">colour cars A, B, &amp; C\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">take cars to ramp and let each one slide down the ramp<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">compare the distances traveled by each car<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">record your observations on the sheet<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">We LIVE our classroom rules each day-<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>R.O.C.K.S.!<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>[metaslider id=1291]<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Learning Outcomes:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Demonstrate an understanding of measurement as a process of comparing by:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">ordering objects (GR 1)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">comparing the length (height) of two given objects and explain the comparison using the words shorter, longer (taller), or almost the same (K)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">making statements of comparison (GR 1)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">determine which of two or more given objects is longest\/shortest by matching and explain the reasoning (GR 1)<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">\u00a0Here are our recording sheets&#8211;thanks to all the Grade One girls for being group leaders for this activity!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/fischerj\/2015\/01\/09\/measurement-fun\/car-recording-sheets\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1288\">car recording sheets<\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">For our final math activity today we each made a &#8220;wiggly worm&#8221; and then we ordered them from shortest to longest on a poster (check it out below and also in our hallway in person!) \u00a0So much fun!!!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/fischerj\/files\/2015\/01\/worms.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-1289\" src=\"http:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/fischerj\/files\/2015\/01\/worms-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"worms\" width=\"221\" height=\"221\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Our Measurement Unit is in full swing&#8211;we have been comparing all over the place!
