{"id":2873,"date":"2024-05-14T15:45:39","date_gmt":"2024-05-14T22:45:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/enchelmaierj\/?p=2873"},"modified":"2024-05-14T16:20:43","modified_gmt":"2024-05-14T23:20:43","slug":"byrne-creek-stream-keepers-salmon-release","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/enchelmaierj\/byrne-creek-stream-keepers-salmon-release\/","title":{"rendered":"Byrne Creek Stream Keepers Salmon Release"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><strong>What a beautiful day for releasing salmon.\u00a0<\/strong><\/em> The wonderful weather, the natural beauty of the forest and the support from those who care about the salmon cycle and the local ecosystem made for an exceptional learning experience for all connected to Division 10.<\/p>\n<p>Thank you to Joan Carne for organizing this opportunity through the <strong>Byrne Creek Stream Keepers<\/strong> Society.\u00a0 Thank you to Isaac who shared his knowledge of the salmon.\u00a0 Thank you to Mrs. Wilson for supporting us on the adventure.\u00a0 Thank you to Ms. Rempel for supporting Mr. Weisbom&#8217;s class of grade 6\/7 students.\u00a0 Thank you to Marcelle, Emma&#8217;s Mom, for joining us and also treating the class to ice cream treats at the park during our picnic.\u00a0 Thank you to Emma for sharing salmon keychains with the class at the end of our journey.<\/p>\n<p>And thank you to the <strong>Coho Smolt Salmon<\/strong> who courageously braved the creek bed and swam with energy to move on to the Fraser River as part of the cycle.\u00a0 The salmon begins as an egg, then alevin, fry and parr.\u00a0 As a teenager, smolt, they hang around the creek for a little bit and then move on to the river.\u00a0 Eventually, the salmon move as adults to the Pacific Ocean.\u00a0 After a few years, they return as spawning salmon to begin the cycle all over.\u00a0 3000-5000 eggs may only have 2 adult male\/female salmon return to spawn.<\/p>\n<p>We all felt extra-special in being able to support the local watershed area, ecosystem and habitat of the salmon.<\/p>\n<p>Please click the link below to see our Tuesday, May 14 journey.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/vimeo.com\/946367606?share=copy\">https:\/\/vimeo.com\/946367606?share=copy<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/vimeo.com\/946367606?share=copy\">https:\/\/vimeo.com\/946367606?share=copy<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What a beautiful day for releasing salmon.\u00a0 The wonderful weather, the natural beauty of the forest and the support from those who care about the salmon cycle and the local ecosystem made for an exceptional learning experience for all connected to Division 10.
