Roots to Grow – Session #1

Posted on September 29, 2023September 29, 2023

We were so fortunate to have some decent weather (not pouring rain) for our first visit with Pablo in the garden.

We had 3 exploration groups: harvesting, collecting and observing seeds, sorting and observing seeds.

The students all learned something new and had a great time exploring.

Our harvest included: kale, tomatoes, tomatillos, radishes, basil, and more! Yum!

A variety of common seeds were given to the students to sort. The seeds were sorted by size, colour, texture, shape and whatever else the students thought was a good way to sort.

In a quick walk around the school yard, students found many berries and plants with their seeds. We were surprised to find so many seeds inside some of the fruits. The students used magnifying glasses to get a closer view..

What’s the most unique seed you’ve ever seen?
