Welcome!
Welcome to Ms. DeTerra’s Classroom Blog!
For nine years, Ms. DeTerra was the District MACC Teacher at Suncrest Elementary in Burnaby. While still a member of Burnaby Schools, Ms. DeTerra has now moved to SFU to serve as a Faculty Associate working with student teachers. Please look at this blog for past activities from MACC Suncrest, as well as new information from Ms. DeTerra’s new adventures!
Ms. DeTerra has been teaching for 21 years in the General Vancouver area. She began as an IB Primary Years Programme Teacher and worked as an IB Consultant and Site Evaluator traveling to IB Schools across Canada and the USA. She has taught a variety of subjects including Elementary Education, Spanish, Theatre, English, and Gifted Education from K-12. In addition to teaching the MACC Advanced Learners Program, she also served as a member of Burnaby Schools’ Staff Development Team as an Advanced Learning Helper Teacher and taught Challenge Programs for gifted and twice-exceptional learners. Ms. DeTerra is passionate about inquiry and project-based learning, concept-based curriculum, arts integration, and helping all students approach their learning in healthy ways.
In Ms. DeTerra’s class, you can often find us building and doing hands-on projects, asking great questions, learning about social thinking and social-emotional learning skills, using technology and the arts to show our understandings of curriculum, and just having fun!
