{"id":46,"date":"2011-10-21T10:55:51","date_gmt":"2011-10-21T17:55:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/derbitskyc\/?page_id=46"},"modified":"2023-07-23T13:26:44","modified_gmt":"2023-07-23T20:26:44","slug":"language-arts","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/derbitskyc\/subjects\/language-arts-2\/language-arts\/","title":{"rendered":"Reading and Writing"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A major part of my Language Arts program is based on Joan Moser and Gail Boushey&#8217;s Daily 5. \u00a0This is a literacy program that is structured in a way that will help students develop the daily habits of reading, writing, and working with peers that leads to independent literacy. \u00a0The five parts of the program and reasons for doing them (or &#8220;urgencies&#8221;) are :<\/p>\n<p><strong>1. \u00a0Read to Self:<\/strong> \u00a0The best way to become a better reader is to practice each day with \u201cGood Fit\u201d\u00a0books that you have selected yourself. It\u2019s Fun!<\/p>\n<p><strong>2. \u00a0Work on Writing:<\/strong> \u00a0Just like reading, the best way to become a better writer is to write each day. It\u2019s Fun!\u00a0 For my Work on Writing component, we make books in <a href=\"https:\/\/opalschool.org\/why-story-workshop-1\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Story Workshop<\/a>.\u00a0 We find stories in art and loose parts, and collaborate to edit our stories.<\/p>\n<p><strong>3. \u00a0Read to Someone:<\/strong>\u00a0Partner reading provides opportunities to practice strategies, improve fluency,\u00a0check for understanding, and hear your own voice while sharing in the learning\u00a0community.<\/p>\n<p><strong>4. \u00a0Word Work:<\/strong> Expanded vocabulary leads to greater fluency in reading, therefore increasing comprehension.
