Week 5

Welcome to another week!

You will notice lots of new things in your work packs this week. First, though, let’s start with what’s the same. You have 5 more letters to practice your printing, another colouring sheet, a subraction sheet to use with your dice, and a Rainbow Scavenger Hunt. Remember to read all your books and write in your writing book. This week we’d like you to write about what you miss about school. Try to write at least 3 sentences with proper uppercase letters, finger spaces, and periods at the ends. I would like you to take a photo of your writing and send it to me by text or email so I can see what you’re thinking about.

Math is new this week. You have 5 Daily Math sheets to review math concepts we’ve already learned this year. Put your mathematician hat on and try to remember how to do everything! Also new is Build a Sentence. You need to cut out the words on the bottom of the paper, and move them around to figure out the sentence. Once you know, glue them down in order, then practice printing the sentence & draw a picture that matches it. Fun, right?

The really fun stuff is the science activities! We have real live caterpillars at home.  Right now they are little, about 1.5 centimeters long:

They live in this little container until they make their chrysalides;

The stuff you see at the bottom of the container is their food:

First, I want you to read about caterpillars. If you go to our Epic website you will find some books I have assigned for you to read.  “Creepy but Cool Caterpillars” is my favourite! You have a caterpillar anatomy sheet to do. Cut out the names of the caterpillar’s body, and glue them in the right spot to label the caterpillar. The other fun thing to do is to have a caterpillar race! You have 2 strips of construction paper & 2 straws. Watch this video to learn what to do, then race someone else!

Here are a couple science videos that are cool to watch:

Learn about how germs get inside your body

Learn how hand sanitizer kills germs

As always, send me a text or an email if you need help with anything!

Week 4

Hello again!

We were sssooo excited to see everyone who picked up their packages yesterday! we were so happy to see all your smiles again. Have you enjoyed your bubbles yet?

We really enjoyed reading your letters. If you haven’t had a chance to write to us your letter yet, you can do it this week and return to school next week.

This week you will notice that the daily math work and the word work is the same as last week. You also have a new colouring sheet, more printing letters, and a Spring Scavenger Hunt.

This week in geometry we are moving from 2D shapes to 3D shapes. These are the shapes of things you use in real life. For example, a basketball is a sphere. Can you think of other things in your house that are 3D shapes? Try making them with your toothpicks and Play Doh, like this:

You also have a template to make a cube. Cut it out, glue it together, and use it for the game inside your booklet.

We gave you 2 new activities to do with your dice. One is an addition sheet, the other is a game to play with someone in your family.

As always, there are 5 new books for you to read. Everyone is doing such a great job at returning their books, it makes us very happy! This week we would like you to choose one of the books you read to write about in your writing book. If you want even more books to read, don’t forget to check out RazKids!

Did you know that Karin has come up with some music activities you can do at home? You can check them out on her music blog.

We will be trying to connect with small groups of students over the TEAMS online platform this week. You will get an email with instructions later today, so please look for that.

Have a great week, and send us a text or an email if you have any questions or anything you need support with!

Pick-up Reminder

Hello friends!

This is your friendly reminder that there are new packages ready to be picked up this Monday, May 4. The new pick-up time in from 10am-2pm.  Mrs. Wong and I are going to be there to say hi, so we hope students are able to come, too. Please remember to return all your reading books when you come and your letters if you haven’t already brought them! Looking forward to seeing you all!

Hello from Ms Lee!

Hello Division 13!

I am popping in to say hi and to see how everyone is doing. I miss you all very much! I hope everyone is doing well and working on the packages prepared by Mrs Curtis. The virtual field trip to Seattle Aquarium seems super cool! I will be helping Mrs. Curtis on preparing the packages for you and finding more interesting online resources in the upcoming weeks! So stay tuned!

Stay safe and healthy! Hope that I get to see all of you soon!

Much love,

Ms. Lee

PS: this is a reminder from Mrs. Curtis that since Monday is a Pro-D day, your next packages will be ready for pick-up on Tuesday, April 28. Don’t forget to return the books, and your letter. I can’t wait to read them!

Week 2

Hi friends!

Hopefully most of you have been able to pick up your work package for this week. You will notice that the sight word work and the number of the day work look the same as last week. Hopefully you’re on a roll with that and can keep those going. There is also a different Scavenger Hunt. I only received a few of your scavenger hunts back, so if you can, remember to text or email a photo of the one you make up, and I will send them out to another student to do. You can also do another 3 pages in your “Lock-down Diary.” Tell me about a movie or tv show you’ve watched, draw a self-portrait, and note a few things you’re doing from getting too bored.

This week’s pack also includes a blank letter form and a deck of cards. I would like you to use the deck of cards to play some math games. 2 different games I would like you to play are “War” and “Make 10.”  you can watch these videos to learn how to play them:

Make 10

War

I would also like you to use the paper to write me a letter. You can tell me how you’re feeling, what you’re doing, or even what you want to do when this is all over. Anything that’s on your mind! When you are done, return it to school with your books next Monday so I can read it.

Another fun thing I would like you to do this week, is go on a field trip! What?!? That’s right! Take a virtual field trip to the Seattle Aquarium. Then pick something you liked or something you learned to write about in your journal. You can get to it here by clicking here: Seattle Aquarium virtual field trip

Lastly, if you would like something fun to do with your body, check out PE Joe

As always, if you have any questions or need support from us in any way, just give me a text or an email.

Have fun and stay safe!

Reminder

Hi friends,

It sure was nice to talk to everyone this week! It seems like you are all still doing well, even though you are missing your friends at school.  Remember, I will call you every week but, in the meantime, if you need to ask or tell me something you can always text or email me.

I have received a few scavenger hunt photos.  When I receive more, I will start sending them out so you can do a scavenger hunt created by one of your classmates.

On Monday April 20th from 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. your parents are invited to pick up another package of activities.  Please remember to return the 5 books from your first package.  Put them in the envelop labelled with your name and drop them off at school.  In your new package you will receive 5 new books to enjoy!

I will also post again tomorrow with some guidance on your new package, although the work is similar to this week. If you aren’t able to pick up the package tomorrow, please let me know so that we can make alternate arrangements.

Week 1

I am so happy and impressed that everyone was able to pick up their work packages from school today! Inside you should have found a Ziploc bag with school supplies, including a drawing book and a writing book, 5 leveled reading books, sight word work, number of the day math work, and a “Lock-down Diary.”

Work to do every day: 1 page of sight word work, 1 number of the day, and read 1 new book

Other work for this week: complete the “Inside Scavenger Hunt,” then use your writing book to make up your own scavenger hunt for someone else to do. If you text or email me a photo of it, I will send it out to someone to do later. I also invite you to do the first 3 pages  of the Lock-down Diary as a keepsake for yourself.

I do not need any of the work returned to me. I will be phoning everyone to discuss their work later this week, and look forward to the photos of all your scavenger hunts! You will return the reading books to school when you pick up the next package, and get new books then, just like when we go to the library. The pick-up time for package 2 will be Monday, April 20 from 9am-2pm. Please return the books in the envelope they came in, so we know who has returned them and who hasn’t.

If you are interested in more learning, please check out the following websites:

Starfall (you DO NOT need to login, just click on “Grades 1, 2, 3)

Epic Books (enter the class code: hls5607 then find your name)
