Hi! I’m Ms. Coutts!
This is my fourth year as an intermediate teacher at University Highlands Elementary. My other roles in our school include technology liaison, and head teacher, so I will be working part time in the office as well. I’ve taught in various schools around Burnaby since 2003, and I feel so fortunate to have learned and taught in Burnaby. I attended Armstrong Elementary, Cariboo Hill Secondary, and Simon Fraser University for my undergraduate, teacher certification, and Master’s degree. Even my parents were also Burnaby teachers (and are now happily retired.)
I’ve grown up in the Burnaby/Vancouver area, and recognize the privilege, joy, and responsibility of living on the unceded Coast Salish lands of the sel̓íl̓witulh, xʷməθkʷəy̓əm, sḵwx̱wú7mesh, and kʷikʷəƛ̓əm peoples. Growing up, I enjoyed a lot of time outdoors in the forest around the Cariboo Hill area and Burnaby Lake. I spent many summers travelling around BC, learning from the coastlines, lakes, and mountains.
I hope to use this page to engage with the students in my class and their parents. We will update about assignments, fieldtrips and activities, and whatever else we think is useful.
