DAILY 5

Hello Family! We will beginning Daily 5 in a couple of weeks. Students will practice each Daily 5 literacy task for a week as a group until students are comfortable with each task.

What is it?

The Daily Five is a literacy structure of reading and writing that allows for differentiation in the classroom and provides consistency.

It is a system of five literacy tasks that teaches students independence and self regulation.

When students are reading to themselves, they will be pulling their levelled books from their book boxes, as well as one book off the shelf to practice. They also have option to read their poetry duotangs, or practice their sight word recognition.

When students are reading to someone, they will be practicing their connecting, predicting, listening, and speaking skills.

When students are listening to reading, they will be using an Ipad, CD player or computer to listen to audio books.

When students are doing word work, they will be working with their given sight words to practice simple grade level word recognition and reading strategies.

When students are working on writing, I will give them writing prompts and tools to write in their journals, or create recipes, letters, notes, cards, and other forms of writing.

Sincerely,

Ms. Corwin
