Student Spotlight

Dominic downloaded a Stop Motion Movie-Maker app, and put together this movie! His story has a beginning, a middle, and an end. Discuss with an adult what you think the beginning, middle, and end parts are to this story. How do you think Alex’s helmet got so far away? 

Mia predicted she could do 40 Jumping Jacks in one minute – and then she tried and she did 66!!! How many  Jumping Jacks do you think you can do in one minute? Mia has been doing an online art class – check out her artwork! She also designed a candy hotel! What details would you include if you designed a hotel? How many rooms would your hotel have? What would it look like on the outside? What about the inside? 

Rojan has been working on adding lots of colour to her journal drawings. What is your favourite insect? What does it look like up close? What is your favourite dinosaur? What do you know about it?  

Azayliah is exploring the Yukon right now, and sent some of her work to share! Do you notice anything familiar about her work? Did you do something similar to Azayliah? What kinds of things do you see in her Nature Mandala? What do you think they are called? Did you write a Spring Poem? What details do you notice in Azayliah’s Spring Poem?

Just like Bennett, Shahzeb has been enjoying working on his math on the IXL program! What math do you think Shahzeb was working on here? Shahzeb is working at a table, where is your favourite place to do math?

Bennett and his sister have been busy! They have done a lot of outdoor exploring, and making crafts! Check out these egg carton butterflies they made! What details do you notice in their butterflies? How many did they make? What do you think the tall thing Bennett is holding is for?

Mia made an invention! This is her rainbow bank… What do you think Mia wants to use her rainbow coins for? Do you think it buys things with rainbows on them – or just big rainbows? What would you use rainbow coins for? What kind of bank would you design? What is an invention you would want to create!? 

Marcello has been working on his printing, and his reading. He is very curious about researching hot and cold in science, and Miss Cobbett is already researching the next science experiment to investigate steam with Marcello! What do you know about hot and cold? What do you think happens when hot and cold are mixed together? Can you think of something cold that you mix with something hot at home? 

Emily has been busy, busy, busy working on her reading, math, and even cooking! She can make pancakes, brownies, and pizza!! Which of those do you think was her favourite to make? What food do you think she might try making next?

What do you think the meeting was about?! Share your ideas with an adult to show them how you use your critical thinking skills for problem solving! 

Mia drew some community helpers last week. What details do you notice in her drawings? What other community helpers could she have drawn? Have you seen a community helper lately? What were they doing? How are you helping your community right now – by staying home? 

Mia also wrote a journal entry about the FG Parade on Friday with Sarah. Miss Cobbett was very emotional at the parade, trying to say ‘Hi!’ to everyone that she misses. How did you feel at the parade? If you didn’t go, how do you think people felt? What kinds of emotions do you think they felt? Happy? Excited? Maybe a little sad? What makes you think they felt that way? Describe it to an adult. 

Rojan has been spending a lot of time reading the Home Reading books! She is getting very confident with the words, and has put in a lot of work on some journal writing about what she’s reading. Check out her drawings on the life cycle of frogs! What details do you notice?  Rojan has been practicing writing her numbers with some math questions – see if you can use rocks or Lego or toys to try these same questions! Do you get the same numbers Rojan does?

Dominic was so focused on filling out the Earth Day Making Words sheet – he filled in all of the lines with the words he could find!! How long do you think he spent making words? What words do you think he noticed first? 

Bennett has been working on so much! He has been working on some spelling, and some writing. His favourite animal is a cat, that is orange with white whiskers – Have you seen an orange cat? Do you remember what colour whiskers it might have had? Are cat whiskers only white, do you think? Check out the huge puzzle Bennett finished!! How many pieces do you think it has? Mia went to Eagle Ridge Hospital to thank the health care workers and first responders. What do you think her sign said? What would you have written on a sign for healthcare workers and first responders? Mia also did a lot of work on salmon! Which stage of life do you think her drawing of a salmon is? What details of her drawing hint at where the salmon is on its journey? 

Kashtyn’s journal gives him a record of different things he has been doing every day, like going for walks and bike rides. He played Uno with his brother – Have you ever played Uno? Who do you think won, Kashtyn, or his brother? How many games do you think they’ve played in total? 

Kristian has done some very thoughtful work in his journal. He had to think about how someone was feeling when they were disappointed, which is a tricky emotion that often makes us feel sad. How do you feel when you are disappointed? What is a way you could help someone who was feeling disappointed about not getting a cinnamon bun? Kristian also did some work around therapy dogs, and search and rescue dogs! Have you ever seen a dog who was trying to do its job? Have you ever seen a dog wearing a vest that said it was working? 

Kashtyn has been working hard with numbers! He writes every day, and does colouring for art! Check out some of his work – What details do you see in his drawings? Who do you think he drew? What stories do his pictures tell you? 

Rojan has been doing a lot of work with numbers – look at this sheet of addition! You can see that she has been adding numbers together, and taking some away… Can you try to solve these questions with some loose materials in your house, like Lego pieces? Do you get the same answers that she does? What patterns do you notice as you look at her work, or play with the questions yourself??

Brayden and his brother went to the creek to see if they could spot any of our released salmon…and they did!!!

How beautiful does Mia’s Nature Mandala look? From her centerpiece, she has five rings to her nature pattern. I love that she was able to use lavender! Lavender is one of my favourite plants!
