Monday May 25

Happy Monday! I hope you had a great weekend. I had a great time checking in with most of you last week. If you haven’t checked in with me yet, you will be hearing from me soon.

Here are today’s learning opportunities:

For math, you will have today and tomorrow to finish up your mini project. Thank you to those who have emailed me your assignment. If you are already finished the project, you have some self-guided math time. I’ve set up a PRODIGY teacher account. Click here to sign up (click on sign up on the TOP RIGHT) – but make sure to enter our class code, which is A872A3.  If you already have an account, you can learn how to merge your personal account with our class account by clicking here.

For ELA, you will be reading 2 poems. The two poems are very different and you will learn why! Full assignment details are on Teams. This assignment will prepare you for two poems that you will be writing tomorrow.

As always, continue strengthening your French and typing on Duolingo and ATRT.

See you on Teams.

Friday May 22

Happy Friday! Today is once again, full of small group check-ins. It might take a while for me to respond to your questions as I am busy talking to others!

Today will be a catch up day. Thank you for working hard on your math, science, and social studies assignments. You’ll be getting another mini project next week (I think it’ll be a science one).

Here are our learning opportunities today:

For math, continue working on your mini project. Make sure that you take a picture of it and have it sent to me through email. You can also upload it onto the Teams assignment page if that works.

For ELA/journal writing, please find your assignment on Teams. You’ll be writing a funny story.

For art, play an instrument! Check out Ms. Fletcher’s blog for new updates. Here’s a suggestion. Use whatever materials you have and make some dot art! Click here to see some fine examples! Use felts, crayons, or whatever materials you have. Make a kind message to be posted for our front line essential workers! You do not have to hand this in, but feel free to upload it onto our art gallery on Teams.

Have a wonderful day!

Thursday May 21

Today is a busy day full of small group class meetings! This means that I will see and speak with many of you, but it does mean that I won’t respond to emails as quick.

Here are today’s learning opportunities:

Class meeting at 2:00 today. There will be an activity that we will be trying out! Once again, it probably works best if you are on a laptop, but a different device won’t stop you from being an audience member in our activity.

In math, continue at your own pace. Go ahead and continue working on your mini project if you are not yet finished. if you are finished, explore different topics on Khan Academy or Math IXL. Challenge yourself by moving up a grade level!

In social studies, you will be looking at food resources. Please carefully read the instructions on Teams as not reading the instructions will likely make the assignment more confusing than it really is. You will look at your lunch/dinner and question what types of resources you are eating.

Continue to develop or maintain your typing and French skills!

Wednesday May 20

Hi all,

Please check your email to find your small group check-in confirmation. I look forward to seeing some of you today!

Please see below for today’s learning opportunities.

For math, please continue working on your mini-project. Remember, make your work nicer than mine and always strive for more than the minimum. It is due next Tuesday so you have plenty of time to add detail (visually, and mathematically). I look forward to seeing creative designs where you embed your shapes and lines in ways that are not obvious to me!

For ELA and science, you will be reading about the desert biome. This assignment will also talk about animal adaptations and will prepare you for our mini science project that will be coming next week!

As always, continue your typing on ATRT or another typing program of your choice. Tomorrow’s class meeting activity might involve a bit of a… typing race…

Because I will be meeting with some of you today, I may not be able to respond to your questions immediately. Please email me if you have questions.

Tuesday May 19

Hello everyone. I hope you enjoyed your long long weekend. Here are our learning opportunity for the day! Looking forward to seeing many of during our class meeting at 10:30!

For math, we will begin our mini project. You will be designing the front of a house while keeping geometric shapes and lines in mind. You will find full assignment details on Teams. This is one assignment where you will need to do it OFFLINE, meaning in order to hand it in, you will have to take a picture of it and either email it to me, or upload it straight onto Teams. This project is not due until next week! Please take your time and put your best effort in it!

For ELA, you will be doing a little bit of research about Tanka poems before you write one. Continue to use your descriptive words and imagery to enable your readers (me!) to visualize your poems.

IMPORTANT: Thank you for filling out the form on Teams about scheduling our small group check-ins. I will be going through them tomorrow and will be emailing you today by 3:00pm to confirm your time! Please check your email before signing off for the day.

See you on Teams!

Thursday May 14

Hello everyone!

We have a class meeting at 2:00PM today. Hope to see you there!

For social studies, you will be learning about a couple of different sources of energy. There are 9 sources to choose from, but you only have to pick and read about 2 of them. Please watch the tutorial video on Teams where I teach you where to find the articles to read.

For math, both grades have 1 lesson. Both lessons will be the last one before your mini-project on Tuesday! Please reflect and ask yourself the following question: Are there any topics that I am not that familiar with? If so, then take some time and re-visit the lesson and do a couple of questions to help you refresh your understanding of the topic!

Math 4:

  • P.19 Congruent Figures. Click here for video lesson.

Math 5:

  • X.6 Congruent Figures. Click here for video lesson.

Continue to practice typing and your French if you are finished early! Make sure to also continue reading! EpicBooks is a great resource!

Tomorrow is a Pro-D day and Monday is a holiday. Make sure you get lots of rest and have a wonderful weekend!

Friday May 7

Happy Friday everybody! It was great to see many of you yesterday as we did our Kahoot during our class meeting! Thank you to all of you for joining the game. To those who weren’t able to play, thank you for being a good audience and for your patience as we trouble shoot.

Congratulations to our winners of our Kahoot!

Here are your learning opportunities for today. Today will be more of a maintenance day… a catch-up day so all of us can catch up and fully enjoy this weekend and all your activities planned (wink face).

For your journal, you will be writing about your plans for the weekend. Please make sure to read the assignment expectations carefully! Remember that you are soon moving onto grade 5/6!

At around 11:00AM today, I will post another assignment asking you to provide feedback about our class meeting yesterday. Please be thoughtful with your answers as your individual opinions will help us craft more successful class meetings in the future.

Continue any art that you haven’t finished and feel free to send it my way. I am hoping to post the art that you’ve sent to me into our art gallery channel this afternoon!

Catch-up on work that you’ve set aside! Today’s a great day to do this and again, I am giving you this work time so that you can have a stress-free weekend to do the things that will make you and your family happy!

If you’re done everything and you have extra time, then please, as always, please practice your French on Duolingo, continue practicing your home row typing skills on ATRT, or read a book on Epic! Remember that Ms. Ho has great resources on her website.

Have a wonderful Friday and a fun weekend!
