10/26/21 – ELA Writing – S.A.D Instructional Writing
We practiced the S.A.D writing technique today to make sure that our instructional writing is as clear as possible.
Students brainstormed something that they would like to teach and began working on a materials list. We also started brainstorming all the specific steps to their tasks.
10/26/21 – Math – Multiplication Review
We reviewed multiplication and visualized them in 3 main ways. Students were asked to work on some short multiplication practice questions using one of the 3 visualization strategies. See below
10/25/21 – Social Studies – Your Values in our Political Parties
We began talking about issues that all 3 governments worked on. First, we brainstormed many “issues” that are out there in our country, province, and city. We narrowed them down to 7-8 main issues and then prioritized them based on their importance.
We agreed that all issues were important and soon realized that our individual opinions and priorities were different. We used these priorities to form our political parties.
Today, we spent our social studies period brainstorming and discussing our issues. We only filled out our priority number and have not started the researching and stating our opinions on these issues.
PROJECT – Forming a Political Party
10/20/21 – ELA – HOW TO… PROCEDURAL Writing
We worked on starting our main writing unit this term. We will focus on procedural writing, also known as HOW-TO writing.
I did a demonstration on how to brush my teeth using students’ initial instructions. It did not go well!
Watch this video to see why procedural writing is important!
Once done, take a look at the worksheet and begin revising your initial instructions. I will be bringing in my toothbrush, toothpaste, and cup next week and will once again, try to use your instructions to brush my teeth… live… in front of you.
10/20/21 – French # 1-15
We went over the numbers 1-15 today.
Check out the video for pronunciation.
10/19/21 – ELA Reading – Visualizing
For the past two days, we read the book Saturdays and Teacakes. We told the story using only words and did not show the pictures. Each student was assigned one page to visualize.
Great visualizers…
- Identify key words that help them see what’s happening in the story
- Identify key images and note them down.
- Can explain why they chose to draw and visualize what they did.
If you weren’t here, please try to read the story ahead of time and when you return, I will let you know which page you are responsible for. This is a class wide project, so I expect your absolute best to make this a success!
Read the story below. Pardon any spelling mistakes!
10/15/21 – French – Introduction continued
10/13/21 – Math – Story Problems and 3 step questions
10/12/21 – Social Studies – Political Spectrum and Federal Party Research begins
Today for social studies, we discussed what a political spectrum is. Key points include:
- Not everybody has their own opinion on topics such as gun control, pipelines, the environment, and taxes.
- We represent our different views on a line and we refer to some topics using the words left and right.
- Political parties have different views, and that’s why we have to vote and elect someone who represents our views.
We began researching 5 of Canada’s well-known parties and their platforms. Today, we researched the left column only.
