{"id":435,"date":"2020-10-09T06:54:21","date_gmt":"2020-10-09T13:54:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/cascade-strongstart\/?p=435"},"modified":"2020-10-09T06:54:21","modified_gmt":"2020-10-09T13:54:21","slug":"homemade-playdough","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/cascade-strongstart\/2020\/10\/09\/homemade-playdough\/","title":{"rendered":"Homemade Playdough"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Making play dough with your children is an activity that encourages and supports learning in math, science, sensory, social\/emotional, creativity, language and vocabulary. \u00a0Let you child get their hands messy and busy making play dough.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-436 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/cascade-strongstart\/files\/2020\/10\/IMG_0313.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/cascade-strongstart\/files\/2020\/10\/IMG_0313.jpeg 640w, https:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/cascade-strongstart\/files\/2020\/10\/IMG_0313-300x225.jpeg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>You will need:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>2 cups flour<\/p>\n<p>1 cup salt<\/p>\n<p>2 tablespoons Cream of Tarter (found in the spice aisle)<\/p>\n<p>2-3 tablespoons Vegetable oil<\/p>\n<p>food colouring (I use a food grade Icing colour paste)<\/p>\n<p>2 cups boiling water<\/p>\n<p>***depending on the brand of flour you use, you may need a little more or less.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mix the flour, salt and cream of tarter together in a large boil.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Add in the food colouring, oil and boiling water.<\/strong> (add 1 3\/4 cups of water first, hold off the the last 1\/4 cup, depending on the brand of flour you use, you may need less water or more flour depending on the texture you want for your playdough)\u00a0 Here, I mixed yellow and a bit of red to make an orange (although it&#8217;s showing up yellow.<img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-437 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/cascade-strongstart\/files\/2020\/10\/IMG_0317-300x300.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/cascade-strongstart\/files\/2020\/10\/IMG_0317-300x300.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/cascade-strongstart\/files\/2020\/10\/IMG_0317-150x150.jpeg 150w, https:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/cascade-strongstart\/files\/2020\/10\/IMG_0317.jpeg 480w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Stir all together until everything is well combined.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Start kneading the mixture into a dough.<\/strong> \u00a0If the dough is too wet, add some more flour. \u00a0Knead some more. \u00a0Knead until a ball forms and everything is well combined including the colour.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-438\" src=\"http:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/cascade-strongstart\/files\/2020\/10\/IMG_0320-300x300.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/cascade-strongstart\/files\/2020\/10\/IMG_0320-300x300.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/cascade-strongstart\/files\/2020\/10\/IMG_0320-150x150.jpeg 150w, https:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/cascade-strongstart\/files\/2020\/10\/IMG_0320.jpeg 480w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Let your child participate in making the play dough by measuring out the ingredients, stirring or whisking the dry ingredients and putting the ingredients into the bowl. \u00a0<strong><em>For safety, adults should pour in the boiling water and do the initial stirring of it. \u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Other things to try adding to your play dough before the kneading stage, cocoa powder, Instant coffee to the boiling water for both the scent and colour, lavender buds\/essential oils or glitter! \u00a0There are so many options you can experiment with.<\/p>\n<p>Tools to consider: rolling pin, butter knife, scissors, garlic press or cookie cutters<\/p>\n<p>Some Fun additions: \u00a0Googly eyes, buttons, rocks, animals, sticks, pipe cleaners<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-439 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/cascade-strongstart\/files\/2020\/10\/IMG_0322.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/cascade-strongstart\/files\/2020\/10\/IMG_0322.jpeg 640w, https:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/cascade-strongstart\/files\/2020\/10\/IMG_0322-300x225.jpeg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Store the play dough for up to 2 weeks in an airtight container.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Making play dough with your children is an activity that encourages and supports learning in math, science, sensory, social\/emotional, creativity, language and vocabulary. \u00a0Let you child get their hands messy and busy making play dough.
