{"id":368,"date":"2020-09-25T08:19:50","date_gmt":"2020-09-25T15:19:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/cascade-strongstart\/?p=368"},"modified":"2020-09-25T08:19:50","modified_gmt":"2020-09-25T15:19:50","slug":"learning-materials-for-home","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/cascade-strongstart\/2020\/09\/25\/learning-materials-for-home\/","title":{"rendered":"Learning Materials for Home"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright wp-image-369 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/cascade-strongstart\/files\/2020\/09\/IMG_0161-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/cascade-strongstart\/files\/2020\/09\/IMG_0161-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/cascade-strongstart\/files\/2020\/09\/IMG_0161.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><em><strong>Think outside the box.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>There are so many possibilities at your local Dollar Store for learning materials we call as, <em><strong>&#8220;Loose Parts&#8221;<\/strong><\/em>. \u00a0You can slowly build an assortment of &#8220;loose parts&#8221; for your child to explore and experiment with. \u00a0These versatile materials can be used over and over.<\/p>\n<p>Loose parts provides so many endless options and opportunities for learning skills such as: \u00a0numeracy\/math, <strong>fostering<\/strong> imagination, creativity, language and vocabulary, critical thinking, hand-eye-coordination and fine motor skills.<\/p>\n<p>Choose an assortment of materials with different textures, shapes, and colours \u00a0and size to provide endless possibilities. \u00a0In the photo above, there are: \u00a0Medium and large popsicle sticks, (both natural and in colour), Pompoms, Pipe cleaners, wooden clothes pins, feathers, buttons and coloured matchsticks.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I wonder what you can do with these?&#8221; \u00a0There are no rules. \u00a0These materials can be used for building, sorting, making patterns, counting, stacking, making portraits, \u00a0and more. \u00a0Give your children opportunities to stretch their imagination.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-370\" src=\"http:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/cascade-strongstart\/files\/2020\/09\/IMG_0156-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/cascade-strongstart\/files\/2020\/09\/IMG_0156-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/cascade-strongstart\/files\/2020\/09\/IMG_0156.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>You may recognize these materials in the containers. \u00a0These are just some of the ones used in our StrongStart classroom. Majority of these are from the Dollar store as well: \u00a0pompoms, assorted sized googly eyes, bottle caps, wooden cubes, buttons, coloured matchsticks, seashells and dried beans. \u00a0 I stored these materials in recycled take-out containers for easy access. \u00a0<strong><em>Please keep in mind, smaller items are a choking hazard and always supervise your child when using these items. \u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Another great way to acquire <strong>FREE<\/strong> materials is to collect them on your walks. \u00a0Sticks, rocks, pinecones, chestnuts are just a <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-373 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/cascade-strongstart\/files\/2020\/09\/IMG_0185-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/cascade-strongstart\/files\/2020\/09\/IMG_0185-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/cascade-strongstart\/files\/2020\/09\/IMG_0185.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>few you can start collecting. \u00a0Make sure they dry out properly before storing in containers and then they can be kept for years.<\/p>\n<p>I invite you to start collecting and building your own &#8220;Loose Part&#8221; learning materials. \u00a0Keep an open mind about how these materials can be used. \u00a0Children always surprise me with how they choose to use these items. \u00a0Give them the freedom to explore and create \u00a0using these open-ended materials.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Think outside the box.
