Supporting Well-Being

We use many strategies in our classroom to promote well-being and to support students to be calm, alert, and ready to learn.

Explicit teaching of Social Emotional Learning (SEL) skills enhances students’ abilities to learn and deal with challenges.

What is SEL?

Like many similar frameworks, the one offered by the Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL) promotes intrapersonal, interpersonal, and cognitive competence. They identify 5 key competencies that can be taught in many ways across many settings. Learn more here.

What are some of the ways we learn these skills?

  • RULER is a program supported by the Yale centre for Emotional Intelligence. Learn more here.

  • Zones of Regulation is a framework to foster self-regulation and emotional control. Read more here.
