The Grade 6 curriculum consolidates the material of the primary and intermediate years to ensure strong<br \/>\nunderstanding of numbers and operations on them. Grade 7 students will build on these skills and concepts and introduce integers and circle geometry.<br \/>\n<strong><span style=\"font-family: 'comic sans ms', sans-serif\">Grade 6 BIG IDEAS:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-9676 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/bauers\/files\/2015\/09\/decimal-place-value-300x275.png\" alt=\"decimal-place-value\" width=\"168\" height=\"154\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/bauers\/files\/2015\/09\/decimal-place-value-300x275.png 300w, https:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/bauers\/files\/2015\/09\/decimal-place-value.png 378w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 168px) 100vw, 168px\" \/>Mixed numbers and decimal numbers represent quantities that can\u00a0be decomposed into parts and wholes.<\/li>\n<li>Computational fluency and flexibility with numbers extend to<br \/>\noperations with whole numbers and decimals.<\/li>\n<li>Linear relations can be identified and represented using <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/www.coolmath.com\/sites\/cmat\/files\/images\/solving-equations06-01.gif\" width=\"182\" height=\"59\" \/>expressions with variables and line graphs and can be used to form<br \/>\ngeneralizations.<\/li>\n<li>Properties of objects and shapes can be described, measured, and compared using volume, area, perimeter, and angles.<\/li>\n<li>Data <em>(Data and Probability: Analyzing data and chance enables us to compare and interpret) <\/em>from the results of an experiment can be used to predict the theoretical probability of an event and to compare and interpret.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'comic sans ms', sans-serif\">Problem-Solving:<img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thedailyriff.com\/Singapore.png\" width=\"269\" height=\"167\" \/> <\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Students will develop critical thinking skills through word problems.<br \/>\nStudents are encouraged to collaborate with their peers and teachers inside and outside the classroom to further their knowledge. Where possible, I will encourage students to show their thinking using our class blog. Furthermore, Math is not an isolated subject. \u00a0Students are expected to use it in Science, Physical Education, Healthy Living and Applied Skills to name a few.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In addition, please use the following sites to provide additional math support.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.khanacademy.org\/math\/cc-sixth-grade-math\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Khan Academy for Math<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/cemc2.math.uwaterloo.ca\/wired_math\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>WiredMath.ca<\/strong><\/a> is a free math website with games, lessons, challenges and enrichment.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.dreambox.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">DreamBox<\/a> for Math<\/strong><\/em> will be used with my grade 6 students (assuming things don\u2019t change) as part of a pilot project for the District. \u00a0This\u00a0is an online software provider that focuses on mathematics education at the elementary and middle school level.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Grade 6 and 7 mathematics program inspires our students to value mathematics and become confident in their abilities.
