The panning makes for a distinct experience in the left and right ear. Not necessarily a composition technique but more so a mixing technique that I found fun and gave the track a unique flavour.

That’s actually a technique called LCR mixing, in which every element is recorded in mono and panned hard left, centre, or right. As far as I understand, LCR mixing was used most frequently back when stereo audio was first invented and popularised, (you’ll frequently hear it used in tracks by The Beatles, for example,) but it’s definitely still used today.
