{"id":190,"date":"2019-09-26T13:08:39","date_gmt":"2019-09-26T20:08:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/atkinsona\/?p=190"},"modified":"2019-09-26T13:08:59","modified_gmt":"2019-09-26T20:08:59","slug":"english-12-paragraphs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/atkinsona\/2019\/09\/26\/english-12-paragraphs\/","title":{"rendered":"English 12 &#8211; Paragraphs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hi English 12,<\/p>\n<p>As promised, here are some materials for you for paragraph writing.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www2.gov.bc.ca\/assets\/gov\/education\/administration\/kindergarten-to-grade-12\/exams\/sample\/en\/1213en_pk.pdf\">A link to an exam answer key<\/a> &#8211; scroll down for the 6 point scale I discussed in class<\/p>\n<p>My planning and outline for my paragraph:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-191\" src=\"http:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/atkinsona\/files\/2019\/09\/IMG-1238-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\"><\/p>\n<p>I used the process:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Brainstorm my big ideas<\/li>\n<li>Look for textual support to back up my ideas<\/li>\n<li>Make an outline of my paragraph (ideas, the order)<\/li>\n<li>Draft it with a quick re-read for errors<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>And the paragraph itself:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/atkinsona\/files\/2019\/09\/OTRR-Sample-Paragraph.docx\">OTRR Sample Paragraph<\/a><\/p>\n<p>To make visible some of the structure, I&#8217;ve highlighted the thesis and conclusion in yellow and transitions between points in turquoise.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>For Monday, you&#8217;ll write another paragraph. You can choose from On the Rainy River, The Things They Carried, or Invierno. I&#8217;ll give you a question (or choice of 2 for each). You&#8217;ll have the block to PLAN, OUTLINE, and DRAFT your paragraph. We&#8217;ll keep the best of your 2 marks.<\/p>\n<p>A bit more from today &#8211; here&#8217;s the text from my slide on criteria:<\/p>\n<p><strong>What does good literary analysis look like?<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Beyond the surface treatment of the text(s) that goes beyond summary<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Engagement with what\u2019s in the text (not making unsupported assumptions)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Specific evidence from the text to support your ideas (in the form of properly incorporated quotes)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A clear thesis that sets a direction for the paragraph\/essay (you may need to revise your thesis after you\u2019re done writing)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Strong internal organization (subtopics that logically connect, intro, conclusion)<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hi English 12, As promised, here are some materials for you for paragraph writing.
