Hi everyone,
Can you believe it is almost Easter already. This is my favourite long weekend because it’s 4 days…and of course there’s usually chocolate 🙂
For today, I would like you to try these questions:
1. I am thinking of a 2-digit number. The sum of the digits is 11. The difference of the digits is 3. What could my number be?
2. I made 12 cookies. Some were chocolate chip and some were oatmeal. How many of each could I have made.
Good luck!
1.
There are 2 digits sum of the digits are 11. The difference between them are. So if the sum is 11 the ones place could be 5 and the tens place could be 6. The difference between the two digits are 3. So I took 3 away from the 5 and now I am left with 63 and the difference is 3.
2.
You made 12 cookies .some we’re chocolate and some we’re oatmeal. You. You can split the 12 in half witch is 6/6 so then you have 6 chocolate and 6 oatmeal.
Nice thinking Russell. The number 63 does not add up to 11 though. For question #2 you gave me one possible option. Can you think of more?

Hi Mrs.Armstrong
If you find and answer for question 2. is the answer possible to be a nagitive numbers?
Thanks -Lauryn
Hi Mrs. Armstrong
I think that if everyone posts their comments and answers others in our class can copy off other students work. If you wait for all the responses first then post them all on the blog I think that is a higher chance of learning and not copying each other. Maybe you could wait for all the responses and post them on a certain then everyone can see how they did.
Let me know -Lauryn
You are very right Lauryn! I thought about that when someone got the answer right and I immediately responded that it was right. Then I realized that everyone else can look through the comments. Oops. Next time I will wait. That is good advice. Thank you Lauryn. 🙂
I think that 47 is one answer and 74
1. my answer is 7 and 4., 7-4=3
2. my answer is 2 chocolate chips and 10 oatmeal or
3 chocolate chips and 9 oatmeal or
5 oatmeal and 7 chocolate chips or
4 oatmeal and 8 chocolate chips or
6 chocolate chips and 6 oatmeal
For question number one I think it’s 47
