{"id":97,"date":"2019-11-09T00:30:26","date_gmt":"2019-11-09T00:30:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/andersonm\/?p=97"},"modified":"2019-11-16T00:48:31","modified_gmt":"2019-11-16T00:48:31","slug":"november-4-8","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/andersonm\/2019\/11\/09\/november-4-8\/","title":{"rendered":"November 4-8"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hello families!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-99 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/andersonm\/files\/2019\/11\/CE003557-9254-4403-97F6-58A824AB611D-300x224.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"224\" \/>This week we\u00a0 continued work on our lived-experience stories, and learned about the value of using descriptive language to create imagery.\u00a0 We practiced by describing a plain old soda cracker with as many adjectives and comparisons (similes and metaphors) as we could. The list that we created together was so impressive that I wrote a short excerpt to demonstrate how even plain things can become interesting with the right attention to detail.<\/p>\n<p>We learned about the roles belonging to different governments in Canada: federal, municipal, and provincial, and tested our new knowledge with a short game.\u00a0 Try it at home, if you wish:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ola.org\/en\/visit-learn\/school-programs\/games-quizzes\/levels-government-game\">https:\/\/www.ola.org\/en\/visit-learn\/school-programs\/games-quizzes\/levels-government-game<\/a><\/p>\n<p>In Science, we turned our attention to the human skeleton, with a small-group read-aloud text and a skeleton assembly puzzle.\u00a0 Next week, we will learn some Latin in learning the names of the bones!<\/p>\n<p>In French, we practiced more clothing and colour vocabulary &#8211; we&#8217;re growing in confidence speaking French!<\/p>\n<p>In the computer lab, we began coding using a program called Tynker.\u00a0 It is set up as a series of game-like lessons to teach the beginnings of coding logic.\u00a0 I apologize for any confusion there might have been in logging into student Blogfolios.\u00a0 Parent logins and passwords have been sent home in student planners.\u00a0 Please change your passwords after logging in.<\/p>\n<p>On Friday, we had our Remembrance Day assembly, and Divisions 1, 2 and 3 beautifully sang (or signed) the <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-98 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/andersonm\/files\/2019\/11\/6CDD89A2-2BB2-422B-B30E-F06CCC00E431-e1573258799559-300x224.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"224\" \/>song &#8220;Strangest Dream.&#8221;\u00a0 Our afternoon Art work period lead to some amazing finished pieces.\u00a0 Many students finished their gorgeous self portraits inspired by Kehinde Wiley and Amy Sherald.\u00a0 Others completed stunning landscapes inspired by the increasingly early sunsets, and the brilliant <em>complementary colours<\/em> they create!\u00a0 Aren&#8217;t these pieces beautiful?!<\/p>\n<p>We <strong>do not have school this Monday, November 11<\/strong>\u00a0for Remembrance Day.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Next Thursday and Friday<\/strong> we will have a special guest to do woodworking with whole school.\u00a0 A volunteer letter has been sent home with one student per family.\u00a0 Please let the school know if you are able to assist with any of the sessions.\u00a0 Thank you!<\/p>\n<p>I hope you enjoy your weekend.\u00a0 See you on Tuesday!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hello families!
