{"id":194,"date":"2020-02-08T00:39:48","date_gmt":"2020-02-08T00:39:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/andersonm\/?p=194"},"modified":"2020-02-08T00:40:56","modified_gmt":"2020-02-08T00:40:56","slug":"february-3-7","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/andersonm\/2020\/02\/08\/february-3-7\/","title":{"rendered":"February 3-7"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hello families!<\/p>\n<p>This week in Math we practiced two strategies for multiplication of multi-digit numbers.&nbsp; The first is <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\" wp-image-195 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/andersonm\/files\/2020\/02\/F2AE8B6D-A0DE-43F9-906F-9E3091ABF858-272x300.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"165\" height=\"182\">the&nbsp;&#8220;traditional&#8221; method, with the numbers stacked according to place value.&nbsp; The second is a method called the &#8220;window method&#8221; that is similar to a multiplication chart, with the numbers broken into the tens and ones values.&nbsp; Students worked independently, in pairs, or groups of three to make Peer Teacher videos to explain the methods.&nbsp; I loved watching their videos and hearing them use math vocabulary as they collaborated!&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In Science, we examined the classifications and properties of levers, with a vocabulary work booklet and an active afternoon block of explorations.&nbsp; We rotated through different stations:&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Sort levers into their classifications<img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-196\" src=\"http:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/andersonm\/files\/2020\/02\/3F77AE56-0467-4353-A586-F970A1812E04-300x224.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"214\" height=\"160\"><\/li>\n<li>Balance a scale<img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-197\" src=\"http:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/andersonm\/files\/2020\/02\/64F36A9F-DA9D-4A91-9098-4FB9DA25F94F-300x224.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"208\" height=\"155\"><\/li>\n<li>Balance yourself or a friend on the balance boards<img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-199\" src=\"http:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/andersonm\/files\/2020\/02\/0F26506A-6A09-4A64-AFA5-6C87220B5947-300x224.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"177\" height=\"132\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-198 \" src=\"http:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/andersonm\/files\/2020\/02\/3CDD9177-AA4A-4AC8-857B-606E11F09750-scaled-e1581121476483-224x300.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"108\" height=\"145\"><\/li>\n<li>Use simple materials (ruler, pencil, eraser) as levers to make heavy loads easier to lift<img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-200\" src=\"http:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/andersonm\/files\/2020\/02\/D268469D-3328-4172-BE63-AC094FAA6762-1-300x224.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"205\" height=\"153\"><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Students learned that we can lift objects much heavier than ourselves by adjusting the length of the effort arm on a lever.&nbsp; If we had a long enough lever, we could even lift the Eiffel Tower!&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In Art, we have begun incorporating our knowledge of levers to make painted mobiles&#8230; pictures to come next week!<\/p>\n<p>In Literacy, we continued work on our Lit Circles novels and studied the function and classifications of adjectives.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_201\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-201\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-201 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/andersonm\/files\/2020\/02\/ABA96619-BC98-4324-85D3-1F2EF0F2C736-300x224.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"224\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-201\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">This student&#8217;s work reads: \u00c7a va bien. Je suis content. \/\/ \u00c7a va mal. Je suis triste. \/\/ \u00c7a va comme-\u00e7i, comme-\u00e7a. Je suis confus.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>In French, we continued work on emotions vocabulary, and finished the Art pieces we began last week.<\/p>\n<p>In Phys. Ed. we worked hard on more basketball skills, and spent our first official Friday for Take Me Outside time.&nbsp; Last week, we held a class vote on whether or not to use our Friday&#8217;s Phys.
