The hot (or rather, cold) topic of this week was snow!  Wednesday’s snow day threw in an extra bit of excitement for students.  I hope that the weather did not cause too many challenges for parents.<\/p>\n

We continued multiplication in Math, working on quick recall of basic facts.  <\/p>\n

In French, we developed greater vocabulary for expressing our preferences for sports, food, and music.<\/p>\n

In Science, students worked on completing their presentations on body systems.<\/p>\n

We worked on finishing our fabulous artist colouring pages.  <\/p>\n

And finally, we began Lit Circles!  Students will be working in groups to discuss their novels, and each week will have a different role in the group.  The Discussion Directors will come up with questions to guide the group discussions;  Connection Makers find similarities between the text, other books, themselves and the world; the Summarizer is tasked with summarizing the sections read each week; the Word Wizard seeks definitions to unfamiliar words; and the Passage Picker finds significant passages from the chapters and explains their relevance.  The novels under study are: Wonder<\/em> by R.J. Palacio, The Lemonade War<\/em> by Jaqueline Davis, El Deafo<\/em> by Cece Bell and The War That Saved My Life<\/i> by Kimberly Brubaker Bradley.  I hope that students all enjoy their novels, and the lessons shared through their study. <\/span><\/p>\n

As snow is a rare occurrence in the Lower Mainland, and since the skies have been so sunny, Division 2 helped me to remember that sometimes the best learning happens outside.  We took some time yesterday afternoon to savour the snow and built “the best snowmen we possibly could.”  Students demonstrated great teamwork during this brief time outside, and managed to build two giant snowmen taller than most adults, as well as two perfect smaller ones.  <\/p>\n

We have just enough parent drivers for both the boys’ and girls’ basketball teams, however, if you are able to drive for either Tuesday (boys’) or Thursday (girls’) games, please let the office know.  Thank you!<\/p>\n
