Welcome back to school!  I hope you all had a wonderful Winter Break, and that 2020 is starting off well for your families.<\/p>\n

Students practice roles for Lit Circles with Robert Munch’s Class Clown<\/em>, and Mrs. Lee’s support.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Division 2 has started off the new year well.  This week was full of hard work and focus, on several new projects. <\/p>\n

In French, students have been practicing asking questions and responses on their interests (“Est-ce que tu aimes …?” “Oui, j’aime…\/Non, je n’aime pas…”).  We have also been practicing proper pronunciation of vowels.<\/p>\n

In Math, we are working on computational fluency with multiplication and division facts.  We practiced different strategies for multiplying, such as skip-counting, arrays, and multiplying by 10 then dividing by 2 instead of multiplying by 5. <\/p>\n

We will be beginning Literacy Circles with various novels next week, so we practiced the different roles with picture books this week.   They all did very well, and I am excited for novel studies to start.<\/p>\n

To finish up our Body Systems unit in Science, students are working in pairs to research and present PowerPoints on one of three systems: Hormonal, Nervous, or Excretory.  They have demonstrated great focus and enthusiasm for this project so far!<\/p>\n

In Social Studies, we looked at the concept of “culture” and where culture comes from.  We filled in “culture trees” to better understand the roots and aspects of cultures.  This tied to research on First Nations governance and how every culture has had some form of government. <\/p>\n

In Phys. Ed, we began working on passing and catching skills to work into basketball.  Extra-curricular basketball is starting up next week at Glenwood, and we are still looking for parent drivers for the boys’ team.  If you are able to volunteer to drive for games, please let the school office know. <\/span><\/p>\n

My examples of re-interpreted colouring pages <\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

In Art, students selected unique colouring pages created by accomplished artists to re-interpret with their own colours.  The pages come from a collection called Outside the Lines<\/em> by Souris Hong.  Students were encouraged to use their pencil crayons carefully to add variation and gradients to their work.  I am sure they will be beautiful when all finished!  <\/p>\n
