Hello all!<\/p>\n

This week, our class took on a spring theme, learning all about plants and preparing our garden bin.<\/p>\n

\"\"\u00a0We practiced a reader’s theatre script explaining the growth of a seed. We will practice this again next week before sharing with our classmates. Since we will be having the Young Actors Project visit Brantford this month, this is an early practice for Division 9’s enthusiastic actors!<\/p>\n

We continued work with fractions in Math, looking at equivalent fractions and working in our math journals.<\/p>\n

\"\"We painted fun and unique branches of cherry blossoms, to honour the gorgeous blooms all around Burnaby during this season. We also drew and painted colourful bouquets to use on cards, which we wrote on Thursday and Friday for this weekend.\"\"\"\"<\/p>\n

In Science, students worked hard to complete booklets on the growth of a plant. I asked those who did not finish during class time to complete this work for homework – please encourage your child to return their completed work on Monday if they have not already done so. Thank you! We also planted a variety of seeds for three parallel science experiments. Each student was given two seeds of their choice, and planted them in identical pots. One pot will be given all the elements it will need to grow (sunlight, air and water), and one pot will be deprived of one of those elements. Some students’ seeds will not have sunlight, others’ seeds will not have air, and others’ seeds will not have water. We made hypotheses and initial observations, and will check in on the pots over the coming weeks to observe the changes that may occur.<\/p>\n

\"\"We also planted seeds directly into our garden bin! We planted peas and two types of beans, and while planting, students found several creatures living in the soil, including a huge earthworm that made everyone squeal! It was very exciting to see this decomposer in action!<\/p>\n
